Hi, I have a friend interested in UCLA and U of Sandiego. Are there any scholarships she can apply for that could cover for more than half of tuition? She is not in desperate need of financial aid though if that helps...or not.

bump? please, I really need help

Probably not going to find just one. She’s probably going to have to get a lot of little ones to cover the costs.
Tell her to make a fastweb account and then look for them on there. It’s really the quickest way considering that we know nothing about her.

Good luck.

If she’s brilliant (think very high GPA) she may get Regents at UCLA – about $ 2500 or so annually.

But fastwebs seems rather only directed at college students…few seem applicable to seniors and juniors alike…anything anyone can think of in the top of their heads?

bump? 84 views and only two responses? <_< isn’t this the financial aid fourm?

You are not getting responses because you haven’t really told us anything.

You have a friend who wants a scholarship.
What is her GPA?
Test scores?
Major?
ECs?
What does she want to do?

We can’t help you if you don’t help us.

fastweb is not directed at college students. There is much more on there for juniors and seniors than college freshman, trust me.

nordstrom scholarship is out i think try that its juniors ONLY

Coca-Cola Scholars program provides $20,000 and $10,000 scholarships to graduating seniors: https://www.coca-colascholars.org/cokeWeb/index.jsp

if she is a minority student, the Gates Millennium Scholarship is an awesome chance – it pays for undergrad AND grad school in most cases – however, she has to be eligible for a federal Pell grant: [::.
If she is at all interested in the military and would be willing to commit at least 4 years after undergrad to the military, she could join one of the branches’ ROTC programs and apply for an ROTC scholarship (Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines all have ROTC programs). ROTC scholarships cover tuition and fees, and many schools match that award with room and board. They also cover all the costs related to participating in ROTC. In return, you wear a uniform twice a week and do some physical training and take military leadership classes. (I earned an ROTC scholarship in high school, but decided not to take it because I got a better scholarship from my undergrad – but if I hadn’t, I’d be on a boat right now!)

This page also has a list of college scholarships for seniors: [Scholarships for College-Bound High School Seniors](<a href=“Site Map: Nationally Coveted College Scholarships and Graduate Fellowships”>High School Seniors: College Scholarships, Student Financial Aid)

Honestly, it takes less than 10 seconds to google “high school junior + scholarship”! Now is the time for high school juniors to learn how to do a little research for their own benefit. If you do, one of the many links would give you a list of 27…link won’t post here, but it’s near the top and titled High School Junior Scholarships.

Haha, sorry, I’m kinda new to financial aid stuff myself. I didn’t know stats was necessary. And besides, my last comment brought more people answering, didn’t it?
Anyways,
GPA = 4.3 (unweighted) Rank 17 out of 500
Test scores = 1700 SAT
Major = Public relations, eventaully she wants to do something in business
ECs = Varsity Badminton, High school modeling, CSF, World Affairs Challenge
Race = Asian
School = Sends few to top schools

Collegeboard.com also has a scholarship search component.

Is it even worth looking on fastweb.com? Everyone I talk to says don’t even bother.

Honestly I have had NO luck with online scholarship sites I get more SPAM emails then anything from them. If she is in High School have her talk to her guidance counselor or whatever they are called they usually have a good amount of local scholarships the students can apply for. Also most colleges have a scholarship application that can be filled out along with/after the admission’s application which will allow her to be considered for scholarships from the college. So check with her guidance counselor @ the high school and see if there is a general scholarship application for the schools she’s applying to. Also once she is accepted into a school she SHOULD be given a financial advisor which can also help you out with finding free money lol.
