Google, look for discussions of the text/subject matter. Ask in class or go to office hours. Get contact info fron your classmates and maybe form a study group. Don’t skip the text - it will probably come around again.
Do you have tutors available to you?
Can you divide it into sections?
Meet with your prof. That’s why they have office hours.

What is the text? I think many people here offer great general suggestions, but there are perhaps some targeted suggestions we can make if we know exactly what it is you’re reading. Often students who are completely befuddled by a text lack the necessary background information to even dive into the text. Maybe you need to watch a Crash Course in … video, or read a particular piece of historical background, or know something about the author to make sense of this particular text.
