Next year I will be attending Yale Uiversity, and with their generous aid can actually afford it. If you add up my Work Study, Student Contribution, and parent Contribution, it costs approximately 3,200 to attend Yale. I have 4,500 (2500 from National Achievement) in scholarships this year and I'm not sure how I can actually use it.

Is it possible to use my scholarships to cover the part of tuition that I would have to pay with my work study, while still maintaining a job? If not, I would only need my scholarship to pay the remaining 1600. What can I do with the rest of the money? Can I ask them to send the check directly to me or defer it for a later time? I certainly don't want to lose the money, after I spent time applying for it.

Do whatever you can… some scholarships may send you the money, but most will not… I’m in a similar situation at Yale except I don’t have work study - it’s just employment for me… I’m pretty sure you can cover your work study and student contribution with scholarships, but the parent contribution still has to be paid… the extra money takes away from your Yale Scholarship… It’s their way of putting money back in their “bank” to help other students. It sucks in a way but you are very fortunate to be in your situation.

Yes, I have no complaints. If the money could cover the student contribution and the work study, that would be amazing. My Parent Contribution is only about 400.

Yes, you can use it for the student contribution and work study, but not the parental contribution. You can also make a one-time laptop purchase, unless that policy changed this year which I doubt it has.

^ That’s a good idea. I already received a scholarship that will give me a free laptop the summer before my Freshmen year though. Perhaps I can use it for Junior year?

what a great situation to be in i immagine. And a free laptop, and Yale. Almost every Seinor in High School would wish to be in your sitiuation.
Congratualtions and good luck at Yale!
