Hello all. I am currently going to be a senior attending LACHSA (Los Angeles County High School for the Arts) and am facing a dilemma. I have put aside academics and extra curricular activities to pursue music at a conservatory. However, recently, I have found that music is not for me and now completely lost. Although my academics have not been abysmal (4.0 average throughout most of high school), I do not know what I should do. My ACT score is currently unsatisfactory and am looking to improve it in my first semester of senior year. At such a critical time, I decided to give up what I decided to major in and do not know what to do next. I am interested in computer technology, film, architecture, and animation. Although I have done many activities growing up, I feel that it is insufficient and too late to pursue a new major. Feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You’re a senior at a good high school and you think it’s too late to pursue a college major? Seriously? No, it’s not too late. There are many colleges which allow you to pursue music as an extracurricular while you take courses in your actual field of study, be it computer engineering, history, or whatever else you may wind up pursuing.

Nobody is insisting that you must go to a four-year college next year. Don’t rush it if you don’t feel ready.

However, if it’s just a matter of choosing a major, that’s what college’s first two years allow you to do. You can try on different fields and see if you like the kind of work you’d be doing in them. In all those interests you have, there’s a place for music, too.
