I’ve never been to a Cracker Barrel. The closest one appears to be an hour away.
That’s because you don’t live in the south! They are everywhere here on interstates. We don’t have an interstate, so sadly we don’t have one either. But we often go when we go to the big city lol.
Residents have been begging for one for decades. We ALMOST got one a few years ago. They turned in site plans and everything. Can’t remember why it fell through.
You’ll find them on the interstates and in some towns here in Ohio/Michigan
We have a few Cracker Barrel around. They tend to have tasty, homestyle meals. In other words, they would be contenders for the “most calories, fat and sodium for $12” award. Once in a while when on the road it makes a good, reliable place to stop.
Many options like this at WaWa. Yes, it’s a gas station ,but sandwiches and salad are made to order and quite good.
Bruschetta Chicken Ciabatta $8.74 (Avocado was extra)
Toast Whole Hoagie or Sandwich, Swiss, Bruschetta Spread, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Sweet Peppers, Spinach, Oregano, Avocado
We have several favorite neighborhood places in Las Vegas where you can get killer Mexican or Vietnamese for $10/person. My favorite dish in the city, at any price, is $10.95 and big enough for two: https://s3-media0.fl.yelpcdn.com/bphoto/BC0YeaJcbS3kxSBa02Dlcg/o.jpg
I debated which thread to post in, but picked this one since hubby’s lunch sandwich was exactly $12. That was actually more than I’d expected since it’s a a countryside coffee shop / breakfast & lunch place / grocer with outdoor picnic tables. But it was a large made-to order, very meaty turkey sandwich. He had to ask them to wrap half to go home. No sides, except a small cookie.
I had a wonderful slice of home made quiche with feta and other yummy additions. It was $6.25, quite delicious. We both drank from our water bottles.
This was on a bike outing, after we stopped at a big farm stand for lettuce and corn. They actually cater to cyclists, have bike racks and two portable outhouses. I’d like to make it a regular summer outing, only about 8 miles round trip.
I had to check the date on the OP.
Went to chick fil a today. Had the new honey pepper pimento sandwich. The combo was 11.19.
Sandwich was good!
Messy, but tasty. I need to move to a different zip code.
I’ve been to a Cracker Barrel and you’re not missing much. I had a hard time finding anything semi healthy on the menu. The candy selection in the shop is worth a stop.
For those of us that are gluten free, we should get a $15 limit as they always upcharge us
Well, today we had late lunch/early dinner at 3:15 at Korean restaurant. We had house special for $29 but it was enough to share AND take home enough for another shared meal, so under $7.50/meal, before tax & tip.
I remember the first/only time I went to Cracker Barrel. After picking up the kids from a summer camp we stopped for lunch. There was a shake (I believe it was a Snickers shake though don’t quote me on that). The menu contained calorie counts for all items. The shake had something like 1400 calories IIRC.
Given the candy store selection in the “store” part of Cracker Barrel I don’t think anyone is stopping there for a low calorie meal. My kids loved when we would stop for breakfast because if they ordered a meal needing syrup they would bring individual serving sized little bottles of syrup with their meal.
Sales tax? Here it varies by city/county and that ‘vary’ can be from 3.5% (state tax only) to very close to 10% (Denver, Aspen, Vail)
We really notice this at Starbucks when the same drink can be $8 on one side of the street and $8.40 on the other.
When I worked for the government I had to travel with a group to NC. It was a very low per diem amount, we all had to share a rental car, so that meant eating where the group voted to eat. Cracker Barrel often won. Fried this, fried that. I ordered broccoli and they asked if I wanted it fried. Um no, steamed. A BLT salad had two large greasy pieces of bacon across the top.
I think water has calories at Cracker Barrel.
I went to a destination wedding last weekend—we spent two nights on Cape Cod and went out for breakfast twice. Both were “mom and pop” type places. I made an effort to see if I could find any thing on the breakfast menu at $12 or under. Best I could do was a two-egg omelette for 9.99. If I got toast or an English muffin or home fries if would ave been more than $12. An individual muffin, toast, English muffin was under $12; so was an individual side of sausage or bacon.
Wow, and that’s breakfast!
LOL! Check out breakfast at Chatham Bars Inn.
