What classes are you guys thinking of taking?

My schedule:

Math 42
CS106A
IHUM: Freedom, Equality, Difference
Introsem: Hacking Things/Things About Stuff

17 units. Too much? I think its about perfect.

footzeatr: I recommend against that schedule. Probably too much.
ngolsh314: Should be perfect.

runeknightx: The EC requirement consists of two courses, which you choose from four areas. The areas are American Cultures, Global Community, Ethics in Society, and Gender Studies; you have to do one class each from two different areas. If you’re looking for easy ways to satisfy GER’s, there are classes out there that satisfy two at once–one DB requirement, and one EC requirement. For example, I hit Humanities (DB) and American Culture (EC) with a Jazz History course (highly recommended, but be warned that it’s tough to get into), and I got Social Science (DB) and Global Community (EC) with Polisci 4 (though I already had Social Science from a linguistics course).

Will we get anything that tells us what requirement each class will fulfill or do we have to meet with someone to get that information?

@Olive_Tree

both [Stanford University Explore Courses](http://explorecourses.stanford.edu/) and CourseRank will tell you that.

What can anyone tell me about the Differential and Algebraic Geometry courses? Are they tough? I detest Math and would like the easiest (if any class at Stanford can be considered easy) class possible to get my Math requirement done, so what would be a good class that fits that mold? I ask about Geometry because that was the only Math-related class that came very easy to me.

Stat 60. Easy A or even A+

^ Apparently Stats 60 is the easiest class at Stanford.

Haha, asian75, we posted at the same time :)

Really? Because I HATED AP Stats! Is it easy because not much work is involved?

[Stanford Courses](http://www.stanfordcourses.com) will also tell you everything you need to know. Most people, as far as I know, use this.

OliveTree: NO. These are classes intended for advanced undergrad math majors. They’re not “geometry” of the variety you learned in high school. You’ll notice they list prerequisites which are also mid-level undergrad courses. If you want to, go to the first day, but you probably won’t understand a word they’re saying.

The material is easy and it depends on the prof. There is this one black prof and he is really easy. Quiz every tuesday. No midterm or final and basically you know exactly what’s going to be on the quiz. Or you can take math 19. pretty easy A too.

Well now that I’ve been looking at the time schedules for the classes I was interested in, my potential schedule has changed quite a bit.

IHUM: Laws and Orders MW9-950
IHUM: Laws and Orders Section 16 TTh 1215-105
Physics 45 MWF 10-1050

  • pick a section for physics 45
    CS106A MWF 315-405
Intro to Nutrition Th 6-830pm (I’m gonna shop it to see if it’s worth it)
MAYBE Math 42A (see my question in the other topic)
MAYBE Introsem if I dont do math42a?

Question:

  1. Is the Physics 45 Lab required for people taking physics 45? If it’s not, do you recommend taking it?

I don’t think lab is required for 45, but it will give you enough units to satisfy science requirement if you’ll be an engineer. Lab is pretty boring, but easy. Pass/ Fail and no one fails.

Here’s what I’m thinking about right now.
Math 51 (was going to go for 51H, but then realized that I’d like to have a life)
CS 106A
IHUM
introsem
some sort of 1 unit class
Sound good for a first quarter?

I’m pretty sure this is what mine will look like:

Math 19
Chem 31A
Spanish 1
IHUM
Music 12A Introductory Piano Class

= 16 units

How does this look?

^ Looks good zephyr and killercayenne =D

Yeah I know basic calculus I got a 5 on the AB exam.

I was just wondering…if one got a 5 on the BC exam, would Math 51H be doable? (or would it be too hard for someone who likes math but probably won’t major in it).

How does this schedule look?

SLE 91
Math 51H
Introsem (Things About Stuff, Digital Dilemmas, or Renewable Energy)

Skyraptor, I was originally planning on taking 51H just because I’ve always enjoyed math (but I don’t want to major in it). Then I realized that probably everyone in 51 and 51H has always enjoyed doing math, and really, for a first quarter, I’d rather be spending time meeting new people and just generally getting settled than trying to figure out p-sets. Plus, proofs are not my favorite, and I think one of the CourseRank reviews mentioned that the majority of p-sets would be proofs. Reviews of Leon Simon were great, though, so you can always start out in 51H and switch to 51 if you think that would be better for you.

i think i might die but

chem 31X
physics 45
math 51
IHUM

i might just wait until winter to do math even though im a science major (although this is arguably not a HumBio or Bio-friendly courseload)
im not sure if i should do 41-42 because i want to take an introsem my spring year but im not sure i should split up my 50 series

also, it seems that courserank isn’t updated as frequently as/up-to-date with the Bulletin, so a lot of times aren’t shown on courserank, so check just in case if you have conflicts.
