What college campuses have YOU visited?

None, because I live in NM and am poor.
Yippee!
The first time I’ll be seeing the school I’m going to (Wesleyan) is in April.

Colorado State, Washington State, Western Washington, SUNY Oswego, Oberlin and Allegheny.

Western Washington and Allegheny had the most beautiful campuses. Western for the spectacular views, and Allegheny for the buildings. I think my least favorite campus was SUNY Oswego, just because there were smokestacks close to campus. I think the people at Allegheny and Western Washington were the most friendly out of all of the schools I visited, but I liked Oberlin’s presentation the best. The woman presenting gave a very heartfelt and genuine presentation about Oberlin, whereas with the other schools the presentations were somewhat static.

University of Rochester, Cornell, SUNY Bing, Vassar, Princeton.

Next week I’m touring Yale, Wesleyan, Williams, Amherst, Tufts, Brandeis, Smith, Mt. Holyoke, and Brown.

I’ll say this about visiting colleges too. I live in Winston-Salem, the city where Wake Forest is located. I don’t have the grades and scores to get in, but even if I did I would go to an equally competitive college NOT at my home.

Anyways, I know people generally apply to Wake for the academics and the reputation, not the location, but I just don’t get how anyone can visit this town and think “THIS is where I want to spend the next 4 years of my life.” Maybe it’s just because I live here and am not an outside, objective observer, but I think this is pretty much the lamest place on the face of the planet.

On Saturday, I’ll be visiting UVa, which will be the first college I visit which I plan to apply to.

I went to Alaska-Anchorage as part of a school field trip. The campus was full of nice, modern buildings with a large “spine” that connected these buildings so that trips outside are rare. (because really, who wants to walk to class in the middle of winter in Alaska?)

Since I haven’t visited any colleges, can some of you guys describe to me what a “good” tour is like? Do you guys like going on busier days, how old is your tour guide, etc.?

I personally think it’s better to go to a small group type of tour date, because you can get a much better feel for what the university is like than at open house when they’re pulling out all the stops, and you can get a more individualized experience.

Most tour guides are juniors or seniors. My favorite tour was at Greensboro College, even though it’s not my top choice school. There were only 2 other kids at this “Saturday Information Session,” we got free food and free ticket to the play that afternoon. The coolest part though was when we walked off campus to Tate Street, which is where the college life in Greensboro is pretty much at, and I had the best coffee of my life. It was a theatre tour, so I also got to see these students practicing for a scene showcase project with the professor, which was awesome.

Another thing about tour guides is that they vary a lot. At App, the tour guide had a couple paragraphs memorized for every stop on the tour. At Greensboro it was just like “Okay, where do you want to go now?” Appalachian’s tour info was better as far as being informative, but at Greensboro I felt like it was a more real, fluid experience.

When I went to Open House at App, Guilford, and Western, I felt like I did learn a lot, but it was definitely a structured experience that bombards you with advertising, where as the smaller tours that I went on felt much more genuine.

UCLA, UCB, UCI, UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCSC, UCM, UCR, USC, Caltech, CSULB, Harvard, MIT, Columbia, NYU, Cornell, BU.

Cal Poly Pomona*
CSU Fullerton
UC Riverside
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
CSU San Marcos
University of San Diego*
UCLA*
USC*
UC Santa Barbara*
CSU Northridge
University of La Verne

*Nice Campus

Colleges that I have legitimately toured-- BC, Notre Dame, Northwestern, Villanova, Georgetown
I have been on the campus of-- Stanford, USC, UCLA, Harvard, UWMadison, Northern Illinois, Brown, UVA

Cynosure
I also toured bc vu and nd. What were your thoughts on those three?

Funny you mentioned those schools, lol.
My dad went to Notre Dame, it’s a good school with a beautiful campus and has good athletics (though i’m not too interested in sports). The worst part about it is that it is in the middle of nowhere, and South Bend is definitely not a great college town.
My sister goes to BC. It’s a good location, and a nice campus (but all of the steps are annoying… -.-). Again, a good school. Though, by what my sister tells me, I’m not really interested in going. She finds a lot of the girls to be spoiled and superficial, and the boys (especially those in the business school) to be kind of ‘toolish’ pre-professionals, though she did find her group of friends. I don’t think she would’ve chosen BC had she not been offered generous scholarship money.
Villanova: Nice school, nice campus. I thought the people seemed nice, but I don’t know. You kind of have to be leery of what the people in the tours tell you. I’ll probably apply next year.

I also plan to apply to all three. ND has been my dream school since I was in gradeschool. Haha I went to the nd bc football game this year, it was awesome. I have heard alot about vu being boring, but that could be the party scene, which I could care less about.

FAMU, Florida State University, University of North Florida, Edward-Waters University, Bethune-Cookman University, University of Central Florida, University of South Florida, I think that’s it.

I live in new York new York and I want to go to nyu so bad …gpa is overall 3.7 and I’m a sophmore what are my chances ???

Sent from my PG86100 using CC

I’ve visited SUNY Potsdam, American, and Harvard. Pretty much from every point on the college spectrum.

I plan on visiting, or at least trying to visit these colleges over spring break:

BU
