What college will take me!!

I’m a high school junior. My freshman year gpa was an 81.1 (my school doesn’t do 4.0 scale so I don’t know what the equivalent would be) my sophomore year gpa was 25.5, and my first semester gpa is a 96. I need help!!! I was in such a bad state of mind my sophomore year. I was severely depressed and wouldn’t leave my house or shower for a week at a time. Now I am working my hardest to recover but I don’t know how to fix it. Any ideas how to help and where to apply that would actually take me would be really appreciated I

Also my cumulative is currently a 65.8

Talk to your GC about what happened. Continue to be engaged this year and next.

You can tell schools that you had a significant health issues in your sophomore year that impacted your grades and attendance. You have since gotten that health issue under control, as evidenced by your grades from this term forward. Have your teachers talk about this as well in their references - that you were ill, and since you’ve gotten your health under control, you’re doing great. This will help with a lot of colleges.

When you apply to colleges, I’d suggest you apply in two different ways. The first one is to apply to schools which tend to admit students who have your overall GPA at the time you are applying. The second one is to apply to schools which tend to admit students who have your GPA average WITHOUT calculating in that sophomore year. So for example, your first list might include colleges where they often admit students with maybe a 70 average. The second might be colleges which often admit students who have an 85/90 average.

In addition, make sure you apply to some schools which practice something called “holistic admissions”. These are schools that don’t admit only on the basis of your numbers. Instead, they look at your overall application package.

Do everything you can to make the rest of your application strong. So do formal prep for the SAT (or ACT). Take the SAT 2-3 times, so you maximize your shot at doing well. Work with your teachers so they can write you strong recommendations. Do the same with your guidance counselor. Make sure they know you, and your story. Continue to do well in your classes.

If you do these things, you will get into college; most likely several.

There will be somewhere for you if you dhownuoward trajectory. Or go to s good community college do really well and transfer to a dream school for you.

My buddy went to cc then to northeastern then to Georgetown law school. It can be done

I’m a big proponent of community colleges. It is an affordable option - great way to save money for whatever school you decide to transfer to in 2 years. I personally just finished 2 years of CC, and I absolutely loved it.

After CC you won’t have to worry about your SAT. The vast majority of universities don’t ask for your SAT scores once you have over 30 credits. There are also many great schools (such as American, George Washington, North Carolina State, etc.) that do not require you to submit your high school transcript, if you have over 24 or 30 college credits. So you won’t need to worry about your high school GPA.

If you have a good college GPA, you can transfer to some awesome schools. My friend was just accepted to Boston University after finishing community college. Someone else I know was accepted to Brown University and UNC Chapel Hill. With Phi Theta Kappa and Jack Kent Cooke, you also get some great scholarship opportunities.

Would you consider this option?
