University of Chicago i would have to buy a gun to shoot myself if i went there

umm Brigham Young University hands down

nothing against anyone else’s religious beliefs, honestly, but it’s definitely NOT the place for everyone.

For undergrad, I would have to say that I would avoid Princeton, Harvard, and Yale.
For undergrad, I find that a pretty sizeable proportion of the students there are legacies, rich-snob students, and/or gifted with an inflated ego.

Of course, there are plenty of nice and humble people there too, but I would prefer an environment that was minimal in those types of students.

How do people come up with that many schools. It seems “some people” will never find a school they like.

I wouldn’t go to UO for several reasons:

1) Too big
2) Decent social life
3) Decent academics
4) It’s a state school so there is less national diversity
5) Oregon is a safe haven for leftist lunatics

Hope2getrice, why would you not go to Princeton for UG? I believe Princeton is the Ivy known for its undergraduate emphasis, along with Dartmouth… I just would not go there because I am getting out of New Jersey, plus I live like 5 minutes from the town.

Princeton… admitting minorities and Jews since 1992.

Eating clubs FTL.

;).

I agree, I’d never go to Princeton UG or Graduate. I’ve visited several times since many from my school go there, and really disliked the atmosphere… Also don’t like its location.

You have a problem with minorities and Jews? What’s the reason now?

early_college-- you just missed the joke, big time. I was poking fun at Princeton’s history of exclusivity and stating that as a negative along the the line of hope2getrice’s comment about it being filled with legacies and snobs.

I’m Jewish, myself.

Berkeley was too close to home and honestly, when I visited the school, I wasn’t very impressed. Yes, the campus is gorgeous but the people I encountered on campus (during my official tour and the few times that I had been there in the past) weren’t very friendly (though it’s possible that the people I ran into just had poor social skills). Berkeley was never a school that I seriously considered. I wasn’t too fond of the prospect of going to a school where I would have been a minority (I believe Berkeley is over 50 % Asian now). UCLA was nice, but I didn’t like the idea of going to a school in such a big city. Texas was a school I seriously considered. Austin is a fantastic city and the people I met on campus were friendly and outgoing. The lack of geographic diversity at UT was a negative. I still believe I made the right decision to attend Oregon over schools that are perceived to be more “prestigious”. I plan on going to law school and am confident in ability gain admittance to a top program. Oregon has what I felt was the ideal combination of solid academics, a good social scene, and just an overall positive atmosphere. The quality of life at UO is fantastic and I believe that this is something that some students do not factor into their decision making process when trying to determine where to go for college. Some high school students get too caught in “prestige” and aren’t able to realize that it’s more important to attend a university that is a good “fit”.

I’m sorry, lol. I didn’t know you were responding to the other poster. I see the joke now, lol.

Mick: You couldn’t say it any better. People care too much about the top schools and not which school is the best for them. Now you can see why so many transfer.

MickJag. The reason you decided not to go to Michigan. Just curious.

I couldn’t go to the University of Chicago or Columbia, among others. I’m not into great books or the classics, so I’d rather be water-boarded than subject to the Core. Too bad I like a lot of other things about Chicago. I’ve tried looking into it, but I just can’t stomach the Core.

UChicago: Not my thing.

How can UChicago not be your thing?

I mean, they do THIS: http://scavhunt.uchicago.edu/list09.pdf

I rather go to Northwestern than UChicago. My reason is because they have one of the top journalism schools in the U.S.

Anywhere less than 3000 students. I absolutely couldn’t stand going to a school less than roughly twice the size of my high school.

DukeAlumnus, you said:

UNC "- they accept community college classes and “online classes” as credits "

So does UC-Berkeley.

That Chicago scavenger hunt just elevated the school’s prestige in my mind!
