What college would you NEVER go to and why?

There are some good public schools out there lol.

I wouldn’t go to a LAC because I prefer larger environments, along with big-time athletics.

I also wouldn’t go to any Ivy (or any other ultra-competitive atmosphere: MIT, Stanford, etc.)

No religious schools (Bob Jones, BYU…) unless the affiliation is hardly relevant (like at BC).

Nothing in a particularly cold area; I can’t stand frigid temperatures.

That about sums it up I guess…

Wow! You wouldn’t go to a small LAC nor a big time competitive jock school. Where would you go, lol?

Vanderbilt is way too white people for me
USC. Kids I know who go there aren’t intellectuals, they tend to be rich jocky booksmart kids

Brandeis.

Wake. Vanderbilt Is a wannabe duke and wake is a wannabe Vanderbilt in my mind

Wustl.

I would never go to UChicago. I visited and I found a dreary atmosphere devoid of fun and human life…maybe fun for some people, but not for me.

I don’t want to go to a school all of nerds or all of jocks either.

I would never go to UGA

Is it because your from Georgia?

No. It’s because I can’t stand UGA.

LOL. Vanderbilt is similar though in terms of atmosphere. I would only go to UGA as a last option and a safety.

Why is that elitist? There are plenty of great public schools, and there are plenty of crappy private schools. The public school has a certain atmosphere - notably, it can contain a lot of students either from the same high school or from the same experiences as the applying student. If the student’s in-state school sucks, it’s not elitist to not apply to other public schools - it’s smart. There’s no point in applying to a public school OOS if you’re looking for financial aid (with the exception of UVa and Chapel Hill), since you’ll have to be at the top of the applicant pool or the bottom of the income brackets to even qualify.

Any strongly religious school. Well, I might apply to Brandies and if the Unitarians had a university I’d probably apply there. But in general, no.

they should totally make a Unitarian Universalist University. I can just see it now…“UUU sweeps the nation academically. Harvard and Princeton rue the day UUU saw light.”

If the Unitarians had a University… I’d be there in an instant. That would be awesome. Will someone propose that to a rich unitarian (are there rich unitarians? there must be…).

There should be a school with two religions. That be cool! Imagine now…

Duke and Yale. i just don’t like them.

“Is it because your from Georgia?”

That’s kind of why for me. I just get very bitter at the thought of going to a public GA school… which is definitely possible in this economic situation, if not enough scholarship/financial aid money was scrounged up for me to go somewhere else.
Gotta admit, it’s quite discouraging.

Me 2.

My parents didn’t care.

I thought the same of my state’s public schools. Then I transferred to one.

harvard. not even if they offer me full ride. actually, no MAYBE if they offer me a full ride. too elitist, too overrated, too much busy work.
