What colleges should i apply to? really confused

I'm Ukrainian and just moved to California 2 years ago. i'm looking at top 50 schools but not sure if i have a chance there

this year(11) i'm taking
ap chem
ap us
h math analysis
spanish 3 (no honors at my school)
english 3 ( definetely not ready for honors)
and an elective, prob. fine art( ap art history doesn't fit in my schedule)

last year i got all a's in english, spanish, world history, ap stats, h bio, dance

9th grade was really bad cause we traveled a lot and it was the first year in US... i got 2 B's and one C the first semester and all A's the second ine

so far my uw gpa is 3.8

ec - tennis team (not at school though)
will volunteer this year
class officer in 9th grade- PR

i also switched schools after 9th grade so that screw me up a little
know russian, english, ukrainian
taking german and spanish
...
so where do u think i can get in? very confused cause so many people have all ap's and really good ec's

Your knowledge of FIVE languages will definitely be a plus. Very rare for a student to know more than three.

As to where you should apply, it still depends on a lot of factors. Your SAT scores, your GPA in the remaining years, work experience.

If you’re still in the 11th grade, you have a lot of time to improve.

Get your grades up, do well on your SAT, take on a few more ECs, and get a job on the weekends or next summer. There’s still plenty you can do to strengthen your app… unlike me. :(

You need to think about what you’d like to study in college, and what kind of work you would like to do after college. There is no point in committing yourself to “top 50” schools until you know that those schools actually have the program(s) of study that you want or need.

You also need to find out about your family’s financial situation. How much money will be available to pay for college? Will you be eligible for federal financial aid or not? If you stay in California through high school graduation, will California consider you an in-state resident for tuition purposes?

Don’t compare yourself to other students. Just concentrate on being your own best self.

In addition to the issues raised by the other posters, you need to answer a few questions about yourself:

1) what size/type of school am I comfortable with? LAC? Big State? In-between? (Sub-questions: how much personal attention to I need/want from faculty and other students? How much variety, breadth and depth of subject matter, ECs and types of people? See thread on why LACs for more clarity on the trade-offs.)

2) Location: urban/suburban/rural-does having a central campus matter or is a ‘city school’ better for you? Do you need a city to be accessible or is it immaterial if there’s lots of action on campus?

3) What kind of culture would you be happiest in? How intellectual vs. pre-professional an environment? Does participating in or watching athletics, religion, frats, activist, arty conjour up positive or negative reactions?

4) Does weather or distance from home matter?

The better you know yourself-your learning style, your must haves vs. nice to haves, your financial limits-the easier it will be to home in on a list of good fits.

I just wanted to say best of luck to you…I had to reply since my daughter has your first name and our last name begins with Z…pretty unusual!

M’s Mom,

I don’t really care, LAcs seem better in terms of personal attention, but big schools have their cons also

i want the school to be on the eastern coast or at least in a city where there are 4 seasons
suburban i think is ideal for me but not a must

also the cost of a college doesn’t matter

i want the school to be pretty good w/ interesting people, not just the ones who drink and soke all the time. intellectual environment is prob better for me also)

There are dozens of lacs on the east coast with 4 seasons. If you want advice about the ‘best fits’, you need to give more information about your preferences and what you plan to study.
