Alright, I’m a junior in high school and once this year ends I will have a 2.9 gpa un-weighted(up from 2.76 last year) & 3.1 weighted. I have always had pretty random grades all across the board through highschool but their is a noticeable upward trend this year (I think so). I have taken a decent amount of .3 and AP classes and I do ok but, I don’t shine in any specific course. I think I will do ok on the SAT like 1150-1250 but I am willing to retake. Now, I do activities to make up for my low performance like I am an active star scout, I am a lifeguard, I did band till sophomore year, and I did golf and swim this year. Also, I could qualify for an IEP because I have ADD but will that help my chances? So, I want to know at least if I can get into decent colleges. preferably, one’s in my state like Michigan State or Saginaw Valley State University.
P.s. sorry about grammar and spelling English is not my forte
Michigan State will be a HUGE reach.
Grand valley state is a reachable reach, Saginaw is a low match.
Depending on budget (<= talk with your parents) you’d likely qualify for Alma, SUNY Oneonta, SUNY Plattsburgh, Uwisconsin Oshkosh, Plymouth state, Manhattan college, Elmira, West Chester university, UNC Wilmington, Appalachian State, Longwood, UMW, Elizabethtown, Lycoming, Siena, St Bonaventure, St Anselm, St Michael’s, Susquehanna, Juniata…
Run the NPC on all these colleges to find a few that will be affordable.
@anonymous7695 – keep working on your GPA. My D20 is in the same boat as you although we are in VA. She is also on an IEP for ADD. Her Plan B if she does not get into the school she wants is to utilize the great Guaranteed Admission Route available in VA whereby you complete 2 yrs at a community college and then get guaranteed admission to transfer to 4-year college based on your stats of course. I poked around the internet and found this similar type of agreement available through Michigan community colleges: https://www.macomb.edu/resources/transfer-articulation/attachments/Michigan-Transfer-Agreement.pdf.
This is worth taking a look into and talking to your school GC as he/she will I’m sure have great insight into what your options will be. Going to community college even for just 1 yr and transferring also saves $$.
P.S. We are looking into Hope College for D20 although she is weary of venturing that far away from home.
Good luck!!
Be careful, Michigan is punitive with Community College credits: UMich will make you retake all the CC classes yet count the CC credits toward tuition and graduation checkpoints, which usually results in your being locked out of your major and makes it very very hard to graduate.
It’s better to start at a 4-year university.
If you can afford to, enroll in a prep course for the SAT or the ACT.
Have you run the NPC on the colleges listed on this thread and talked with your parents about budget?
