What Colleges would I have a chance at? Econ Major

@Dunboyne Is Brown a target school for wall street firms when recruiting? I can’t assume that just because it’s an “ivy” that it will have ivy type recruitings.

Please do not put words into my mouth, OP. I said it was a reach, with Wharton probably too great a reach, but I am an anonymous stranger on the Internet and my opinion is no more than that.

UMich meets need for in-state students.

@woogzmama I’m thinking of applying to Upenn ED and Northwestern RD for my reaches

Re: #23 - That seems like a solid strategy. With Michigan as an in-state option, you should have some great choices.

You’re in a financial pickle and your main concern is making a beeline to Wall Street? I can see where this is going.

@Dunboyne I never said that Wall Street was a “concern”, I was only curious after reading an article on it.

Michigan application is free if you apply to Dearborn first. Mine had a free application.

Most of the Colleges that I’m looking at provide close to 100% need based FA. But if the College didn’t do that, then I’d be looking at much cheaper Colleges. My family could only contribute say 5-10 a year at most.

That doesn’t mean that the schools will be affordable for your family. Do you know how much these schools will expect your family to pay? What if these “meets need” schools look over your family’s income/assets and say that your family should pay $30k per year? Then what??

Do you have a non-custodial parent?

Is your family lowish income? middle income? upper-middle ($85k+) income? or more?

But we don’t know what UMich will determine that the family should pay. UMich may determine that it thinks the family can pay most/all of the costs.

The student needs to ask his parents to fill out the Net Price Calculator on the UMich website to determine what they’d be expected to pay.

@mom2collegekids Sorry to stop your rant, but my family is low-income so that would be impossible for the College to expect 30k a year from them. I’m not worried about that happening; I have surveyed all of these Colleges and performed the NPC on each. They are affordable for me.

^ You’ve got to be kidding. You’ve asked questions and have gotten replies. You should be grateful or – at the very least – respectful.

What is your list now?

@DrGoogle Still working on my safeties, but my matches are: BU, UofM, (still looking). And obviously it’s easier to pick your reaches: Upenn, Duke, Uchicago and maybe harvard for fun (I would pay for this app fee myself). This list is definitely not finalized, as I’m still looking for more input on CC and elsewhere.

If you have BU, why not add BC. I think it’s more well known for business than BU. Both are expensive private schools within a few miles of each other, IIRC.

What about University of Wisconsin-Madison? Spectacular school, if you can handle the cold :stuck_out_tongue:

@biochemgirl67 I live in Mich, so the weather wouldn’t be a problem
