What could my boyfriend get into?

Hey everyone,
So my boyfriend has been applying for colleges but I think he's really underestimating himself. He's applying for schools with around a 72% acceptance rate. I was just wondering what kind of colleges you think he could get into.

He's had mostly As and some Bs throughout high school and has taken all honors every year.

He's an all-american wrestler and is varsity captain of his team.
He's section leader of his band section.

His SAT scores were not very goo though, I think they were 1650 and that would take his chances of a good school down.

He goes to public high school in a small town so he stands out in his town a lot.

He is a big people person, everyone loves him, very VERY good at talking and interviewing so he should definitely do well on that. Since people love him, his recommendations will likely be very good too.
He is also a very good writer so for essays he should be good.

His job works with animals and his summer job is a camp counselor for kids.

Overall question: What kind of colleges would he be most likely to get into?

Shouldnt judge schools by their acceptance rates but… I would say he should apply to his state universities and flagships, and then to private schools that are a little less selective — You said he was a people person? He should apply to Syracuse University the #1 party school yoooooo – Syracuse is a great school that seems to be in his range of schools — Good luck!

Tell him to check out naviance if your school uses it which would be able to compare himself with past applicants from your school. There are plenty of good options out there, and that should give him an idea of where he stands

He might consider looking into some test optional colleges since it seems like his standardized tests are not quite on par with his grades. http://www.fairtest.org/university/optional/state

If he’s a recruited athlete, the rules for acceptance change - are any schools interested in him for their wrestling programs?

There’s a lot of state universities interested in him for wrestling

Then there should be some privates interested as well. He just need to start seeing if he can get the coaches interested in him. Even some decent D3 schools could be within reach if he can afford them and/or he would get a good FA package. An SAT of 1630 may not get him in everywhere, but it’s decent. The wrestling could get him in better schools than his test scores indicate, but he may need to make the school aware of his interest.
