what da hook gon be?

hey all...I've posted this elsewhere, but what exactly can a hook entail?
would an above-par SAT score --say, a 2380-- count as something special?

I wouldn’t call a high SAT score a hook.

I definitely don’t think you should mention your SAT score as a “hook” on your application. You already have to submit your SAT score to them, so it will look desperate if you emphasize a mandatory-for-admission, standard piece of information. (it’s like calling your 4.0 GPA a hook…not good.)

Hooks are more about something that isn’t related to academics: legacy, first-generation college student, geographic location, ethnicity, etc.

Besides, a majority of Princeton students would have had high SAT scores too. That’s one reason why the university is considered so selective.

A high SAT score will help your chances, so don’t worry. It’s not like the admissions officers will say, “Oh no, this person doesn’t have a hook! Let’s reject him!” An advantageous academic reputation can beat out a hook in some cases anyway.

thanks so much!!

What about a disability? Does that count as a hook? Like, if I submit proof that I was actually in special education but still have great stats, will it be a hook, or will it scare them into thinking that I’m a bit slow? (It’s a coordination and visual perception disability.)

How do counter-hooks work? I’m Asian. Is there any way to not get hit by that?

Yes.

Use those bio-engineering skills and actively change your DNA to Native American. The trials and tribulations you encounter would make a pretty good personal statement AND you could check the Native American box on your app.

“what da hook gon be?”

hmmm… a mastery of vernacular english should do the trick :D

it’s a rap song by murphy lee circa…2003/4ish?
hehe

I started singing the song after reading the title.

Because of backwards and ignorant thinking, non-physical disabilities are not looked upon kindly during the admissions process. Handle with care.

A wooden leg and a talking parrot on your shoulder; now that’s a hook.

or just a real hook…captain hook…pirate…get it?

…i’ll stop

There is one single hook that can be grouped as academics: medal winner of any International sci/math olympiad
