"What did you learn about the research process and your research interests?"

Just began working on my MIT research supplement! I had some fun describing my research in a “layperson’s terms,” but I’m having a little trouble with this question. What exactly might “research interests” mean? What do you think an answer could look like? Maybe there’s even a sample or real answer somewhere?

The types or areas of research that interest you is something only you can answer.

There is no predefined answer. Those reading what you write will be reading it to try and learn more about you.

I think this is already useful! So it’s not just fields or subfields I might choose to talk about but types of research too (although I’m not sure what such ‘types’ might be).

I suppose the lesson is to write whatever I really want to write and to not worry about kinds of responses I haven’t thought of.
