I named it Grinnell 'Gurus'. I relate how Gr Coll seems to have come out a long way by mastering almost everything they had to face, be it their rough past, their current philosophy and ideals...etc..

I come from a conservative area of the country; people where I live are afraid of knowledge, be it knowledge of evolutionary theory, knowledge of literature, or knowledge of sex. An admission to Grinnell College would be my escape into a world where no one is afraid of knowledge. Thus I proposed the Grinnell College Snakes/Serpents, after the snake in the Garden of Eden. A risky move, no?

^ That sounds like a really good idea, Miss Pickwickian. I’m trying to imagine one of those mascots costumes as a snake…haha.

I suggested they keep the pioneer mascot because it represents the history as well as the current state of the college (pioneering new ideas, etc.) Kind of clich

DS didn’t have to do that supplemental essay and was disappointed because he knew just what he wanted to write! Filing it away for future reference …

I named them “The Grinnell Gurus” too! CRAZY COINCIDENCE!

The endeavors. After the space shuttle, exploring unknown frontiers. xD

otchkies, were both dead then

No, you are not. Two people having a great idea doesn’t = death.

Lol, ROCKHARDABS. We’re not dead! We’re…creative counterparts. Don’t worry, I’ve already been accepted. Looking forward to meeting you once you get accepted as well!

White Stallion. The key point was “Grinnell and white stallion also share one very rare characteristic – resurrection. In ancient mythology, a White Stallion symbolizes resurrection and new life. Heroes who defeat death and return from the underworld are said to have ridden white stallions. After being devastated by a tornado in 1882, Grinnell College was soon rebuilt. But it was replaced by more than just architecture – Grinnell gained a renewed spirit with novel ideas and ambitious plans, such as the first department of political science in the United States, as well a new department of foreign languages.”

The Farmers. Rock on.

I was going to go with the Grinnell Globetrotters, but I changed at the last minute to the “Ambassadors” :)

Oh no, I feel like I picked a boring one now! I went with the Grinnell Prairie Dogs (very social, always looking out for others…)

runnergirl, I like it!

Of course, you have to take my comments with a grain of salt, being that I am from the “Badger” state and was a “Golden Gopher.” Maybe I just have an affinity for critters that dig holes in the ground.

Hummingbirds-always “thirsting” for knowledge and having unique talents. Anyone else bothered by the 500 character limit, though? or who’s gotten in and answered under 500 characters for both questions?

I have good stats but I’m seriously worried I may have screwed up the application to the only college that works both financially and academically for me…

My son said the 500 character limit is just for the box on Common App. If you upload your document, and it is over 500 characters, the entire essay loads. Just a space issue for the Common App site.
