What did your parents do to celebrate your acceptance to UW?

Looks like the difference between a double at lander and a double at stevens court is

113 per quarter or a little over 300 for the academic year

Seems like a pretty good deal to me considering you get an entire full kitchen, living room, etc.

Also I love our workout room, study room, community center…you aren’t going to find a regular apartment with all of that (much less that price)

But at the same time, if you just cannot spare 300 for a year (and some people truly can’t) then it’s not a good deal if it can’t be afforded

Really? That is it? That is defiantly something to check into! Do you share a room for that price?

And lets not forget, if you live in Steven’s court…you DON’T have to have the dining meal plan, or if you do want it…you can choose a cheaper option not available to the other dorms.

"If you are assigned to a Dining Optional Area (2104 House or Stevens Court A–D), you will have the opportunity to select The U-Plan or to decline your Dining Level. "

So if someone likes to cook or otherwise wouldn’t want to eat at the dorms…there is actually a substantial savings at steven’s court over staying at terry/lander (or any other dorm for that matter)

Prices and information listed here:

Tessy: since I was trying to show you an equivalent…I compared the price to a double at steven’s to a double at terry/lander (what your child currently has) so they would be sharing a (bigger) room. There are individual rooms at Steven’s court as well…i think the prices are on that original link.

Thank you so much, that is great to know. He doesn’t want the dining card so that is perfect!

when do the decisions for UW come out?

March 15-30

Thanks for sharing, tessey. I’m so glad your son is enjoying it. Thanks all of you for the information you share. It really does help.

I was so excited when I got my letter, but super worried too so I had my mom open it for me.She had a huge smile on her face so I knew I had made it, we then hugged and danced around in a circle. Not the most exciting story but definatly a day to remember!

My parents just said nice job. And I’m not even that great of a student, so it was a miracle I got in the first place -_-.

^What were your stats if you don’t mind me asking?

3.89 GPA - includes 16 community college classes (running start)
AP U.S Hist
1770 SAT
Lots of Extracurriculars

I mean it isn’t terrible, but I feel like the “stupid” one compared to these people here with 4.0’s, 2000+ SAT, and AP classes up the roof.

I had just gotten back from a trip, so it was late and my mom had gone to bed. My dad, however, was there to witness The Moment When I Opened The Letter. Being a pretty softspoken guy, he pretty much just said “congratulations” and left it at that, while I rapidly recited the contents of the letter to him.

That was alright by me though, I wasn’t expecting anything more. If I had come back to a car sitting on the driveway or something, I’d be half suspicious that my parents actually wanted me to ship off 2000 miles to Seattle so I can get out of their hair…

I had this weird feeling all day that it would be in the mail. On the way home from school before I even walked in the door I stopped off at the mailbox. I grabbed all the mail out but searched for that gold envelope, saw it, jumped up and down screaming as my sister was waiting in the car, drove home, ran inside and then screamed some more! My mom was so happy she cried and gave me a hug. It was a good day :)

^congrats!! That is awesome

Everyone’s scenarios seem so much better than mine. Saw everyone’s post about their acceptances on fb while eating bowl of cereal, went to my mailbox and checked the mail. Smirked when I saw the gold envelope, went back home and continued when my cereal (Common diet of mine XD). Showed my mom and all she did was nod; sigh… guess there’s no pleasing her, or at least she doesn’t show it evidently. Anyways, Congrats to all who made it!

Well Raamzic, let me be the first to say, WOOO HOO! Congrats! :)

Congrats Raamzic!!

Aww Raamzic, congratulations!!!

Thanks everyone, nice to see there is a lot of warmth coming from the UW community. Well, I guess my post did make my mom come off as some perfection-desiring dictator, I guess I just asked at the wrong time really. Can’t wait to join the Huskies!
