What did your parents do to celebrate your acceptance to UW?

My dad and mom shrugged me off. I had my own little party in the corner of my room.

yezboy: We’ll have a party for you here! ;D Congrats!

Raamzic- I know how you feel!!! UW was my #1 choice, and trust me my stats were very borderline of not getting in which made it even more crazy when the acceptance letter came in. My mom’s reaction was “it is going to cost more”. So I celebrated by myself.

Really…all of you have so much to be proud of! So congrats! And yes, sometimes parents can seem not very impressed but I bet they are very, very proud of you. Some parents just don’t show it much and some of us just go crazy but I can’t imagine any parent not being super happy for their child to be accepted into such an awesome school!

I got my letter Thursday, but my Dad is deployed in Afghanistan,so my Mum and I waited until Saturday when he could skype with us to open it. I’d been following these boards pretty religiously, so I knew what the gold, small envelope would entail, but it was a very happy surprise for them!

I talked to my mom in the car about what I’d do if I didn’t get in and my life at UW v Gonzaga, all that… she played me… haha
Turns out my sister saw the ‘golden ticket’ in the mailbox and hid it, so when I came home angry at the lack of mail, she asked me to move my things off the kitchen counter… and there it was. My mom and I broke down crying out of happiness! My dad and I danced around with the letter when he got home!

I’m finally going home!!!
:)

My Mom called me when she saw the envelope!
We’re going out to dinner later, nothing too out of the ordinary. :)

Reading these posts make me jealous. My parents didn’t do ****. Even though the UW has been my dream school for as long as I remember. My dad was like “good job”, period. My mom was way happier and said good job and all of that, but that’s it -_-.

My parents didn’t really care. my mom was like, “oh okay good”, and my dad simply said “congrats”. That’s about it.

They didn’t say anything either. My dad just told me ‘congrats’ and looked up UW’s rankings.

terpischoria: my mom did the exact same thing. i was like ***.

I don’t quite remember…we probably went out to dinner somewhere. To be honest, I was confident I’d get in, so receiving the letter just confirmed that.

I remember being depressed about not getting into my dream school, but 3 years later, I’m pretty happy with where I am. UW has been great to me, and I’m not sure I’d be in as good of a position at my dream school. Although if I get in there for grad school, I would accept without a second thought. :P
