What Dishes Will You Put On The Table This Holiday?

Whether you are dining with a dozen or solo what dishes/desserts/drinks are you responsible for getting to the table?

If you are responsible for ALL, you have my sympathies… :turkey:

I have 4, 2 are already to go:
Moms Traditional Dressing
Roasted Cauliflower w/dates and lemon dressing

I hope all that desire have a “treat” to eat - something warm, comforting, sweet or decadent as a celebration of things in life to be thankful for.
Pumpkin bread
Italian Cookies (bought at a specialty Italian shop)

I am making my mom’s bokchoy/ramen noodle salad, rolls, vegetables (green beans, roasted broccoli), and apple pie. I am thankful that both kids will be with us, as well as SIL, GD & D’s in laws. (Not so thankful for spellcheck, which refuses to let me spell bokchoy as two words!)

Lasagne, caeser salad and key lime pie. Turkey went out the window.

We will be 3, maybe 5 if my parents come. Older S is with GF’s family. I refuse to ever cook a turkey or make a fuss at thanksgiving. So we compromise. We picked up a cooked deep fried whole Turkey, dressing and gravy from a local barbecue place. I’ll make mashed potatoes and biscuits. We have a chocolate and pumpkin pie from a local place. Ta da. Served on our well worn almost 30 year old Corelle dishes. But I would much prefer to eat a frozen pizza.

Smoked turkey (from Costco, reheated on the grill)
Mashed potatoes and chanterelle gravy
Sweet potatoes
Garlicky green beans
Green salad
Egg salad
Cranberry sauce
Stuffing (stove top)

Ice cream for dessert plus whatever pie kiddo makes

I am (almost) a traditionalist.

For sure:
Turkey brined with salt, sugar and fresh herbs cut into pieces recipe courtesy of Truffle Shuffle (zoom thing)
Cranberry sauce (with the recipe on the bag)
Mom’s stuffing recipe with chestnuts
Glazed brussel sprouts (a Truffle Shuffle recipe DH is making it)
Potato casserole with cheese (another Truffle Shuffle thing DH is making)
Pecan pie

Not making this year because there are only two of us:
Apple Pie and/or Pumpkin pie
Salad
Crudites

Not sure:
I bought sweet potatoes. I just mash them maybe with a splash of cider or orange juice.

Definitely a traditionalist, but happy to try variations on the traditional food.

I’m making butternut squash soup and a sweet potato casserole…I think I’ve posted it her before. I’ll make it today because the flavors all blend well for the next day.

Sweet Potato Soufflé (I think because it has eggs in it)

3 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1/2 cup sugar (I use 1/4 cup)
1/2 cup milk
1 Tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1/2 Tsp salt

Whip together and put in an oven proof casserole.

Now…you can stop here and refrigerate overnight…then take out an hour before you plan to bake…or just continue here.

Topping:

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/4 cup flour
1/4 stick butter or margarine

Cut together like you would for a pie crust and put on top of potatoes.

Bake at 350 for 30 -40 minutes.

We will also be having stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, roasted veggies, cranberry sauce. I really want to make corn bread but I’m not going to! Maybe later for leftovers.

With a smaller group we have cut back. Of course we will have turkey, rolls, salad, pumpkin pie, jello salad, corn casserole. H will make oyster dressing (which he loves) but only he (and possibly SIL) will eat it.

S, D and I are going to make a “butter board”.

Going to relatives about 4 hrs away. I’m making and taking a vegan gluten-free chocolate pie, and vegan gluten-free butternut veggie risotto, with parmesan cheese on the side for the non-vegans. One of mine is vegan so I felt obliged to make sure there was something vegan there to eat. One of theirs is gluten-free and it seemed rude to take a bunch of gluten or I would have made pumpkin bread or something. Hope the risotto and pie travel okay. I was going to do Brussels sprouts, but they wanted to make them instead.

DH has yet to update the wine list, but we’re having our traditional fare. My mom is our only guest this year, and she’s bringing the pies. We will have our neighbors over for dessert later.

And some non-alcoholic Ariel.

Just add parm and dill to any popover recipe. That’s what I do, nothing unique about the popover batter.

My sister-in-law asked me to bring a pumpkin pie, but the pie I made last year was hardly touched, so I made pumpkin bread and cranberry-lemon bars to bring instead.

Hope you’ve told her you are not bringing pumpkin pie since she did ask you to bring it. I love pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving, in part because of the tradition.

@ChoatieMom , Great menu (it currently says 2023 so be sure to edit before finalizing). I have never done a formal menu like that for the holidays but neighbors invited us for the first time this year and the husband sent us a draft of the menu! We are taking roasted brussel sprouts, cranberry sauce, rolls and butter, a bottle of white wine, and some craft beer. And will bring a hostess gift. Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Yes, I did tell her and said I would bring one if she really wanted me to.

She is ordering pies plus a “dessert charcuterie,” so still some potential for pumpkin pie to be available, albeit not homemade by me.
