What does the job of an engineer entail, what do engineers do? More specifically what do chemical engineers do?

What do you want to do?

There are so many diverse jobs that engineers do, it's really too much to cover in a single thread.

However, if you're looking into chemical engineering, I'd also have to tell you to look into materials science & engineering. It's similar, except a lot more exciting. :p

I just know Chemical Engineers work for big oil companies.

Some also work for pharmaceutical companies.

Racin, do we have another MSE person on the forums now? :)

What's your concentration? I'm in metals.

At my company I know 1 chemical engineer who works as a facilities engineer. Designing systems which process oil. I know two that work as petroleum engineers.

chuy, I'm pretty much interested in doing any sort of work involving phase transformations and novel properties/processes we can engineer out of them. The group I'm in for grad school specializes in bulk amorphous alloys, so there's plenty of that going on. :D

For undergrad they told us we needed a concentration, but I wound up taking enough classes in MSE to cover the metals and electronic materials requirements just out of interest. :p

Pretty much the only things I don't like are polymers (sorry ChemE people) biomaterials, and frivolous nanotechnology.

Wow, finally found a thread with some mention of MSE in it.
