What do geologists generally do?

<p>I'm thinking about being a geologist and I really like the fact that I can travel a lot. I want to do research in Antarctica, observe a volcano in Hawaii, work on an archaeological dig in the Middle East, explore an underground cavern somewhere, etc., etc. But is that career feasible? </p>

<p>I've looked online and it seems like geologists really work for oil and mining companies...</p>
