What do I need to do to transfer into UCB as a legal studies major?

Hello!
I am currently a first year community college student at DVC looking to transfer into UC Berkeley as a legal studies major. Besides meeting general education requirements (IGETC), I don't really know what else I can do to get into UCB's undergrad law program. Do I need to do extracurriculars in addition to getting good grades? How difficult is it actually being accepted into UCB as a legal studies major? What type of GPA score would they want to see from someone transferring into my major? Any personal insight into this matter would be much appreciated, especially if you are also a community college transfer student who got accepted into UCB.
Thanks in advance to those who answer!

Addition info: I have yet to finish my first semester here at DVC so no current stats on my over-all GPA. Hopefully, I will ace my finals and keep my straight A's.

Check assist.org and complete all the classes that are listed and possible to complete before transferring.

Extracurriculars help but of course aren’t required to transfer.

Get as high of a GPA as possible, the closer to 4.0 the better.

The transfer admission rate for legal studies was 37.6% for Fall 2012:

Have you been to assist.org yet? Have you been to UCB’s legal studies web page yet? Those will have all of your answers for class requirements.

As for GPA, obviously as high as you can. I don’t believe legal studies is impacted so a 3.5+ will be competitive, and a 3.7 will give you a really good chance.

No ECs necessary but obviously if you had a job of any kind, or better yet, a job or internship in law, your application will look a lot better.

UC Berkeley College of Letters and Science don’t admit directly to major, they admit to the college and then from there you petition for your major after you’ve been accepted. There is NO easier major at a school like Berkeley to get admitted to; you’re competing against the entire applicant pool. That said, depending on which major you say you will declare, you’re best to go with the one that you’ve completed all or most of the pre-reqs for and have demonstrated the most interested in through ECs, clubs, work experience etc.

^^berkeley actually admits students directly to legal studies, not to l&s.

Right, my mistake. I actually got this confused with another thread that was asking whether they should transfer into Sociology or Legal Studies. They’ll have to disregard my previous post as it’s completely off-topic. Lol

Yes, I have checked out assist and UCB’s legal studies page, but I still wanted to gain a bit more knowledge about the major and school.
I was reading another thread about a CC student who transferred into UCB as an Econ major in 2010 with a 3.5ish GPA. I thought this was considerably low for UCB requirements but seeing that legal studies is not impacted, I will have to get a higher GPA than that. Thanks for all the helpful advice guys. Feel free to keep the thread going!

Side Note:
Someone suggested I should take Humanities instead because it’s UCB’s specialty. I haven’t really looked into that much (or can say the same) but I feel like majoring in legal studies is a good choice because it can lead to many different career paths. Please correct me if I am wrong because I was also looking into International Relations (or Peace and Conflict studies, as Berkeley calls it).

If you want more information about various majors at Berkeley, take a look here:
[General Catalog - Courses & Curricula by Department](http://general-catalog.berkeley.edu/gc/curricula.html)

Of course, use [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to find the needed prerequisite courses at your CC.

Note that the Berkeley general catalog page for the legal studies major says:

Honestly, I wouldn’t choose legal studies unless you have a strong interest in it. Everyone will assume you plan on going to law school, and I’m guessing a large majority of students in that major do plan on attending law school. Ironically, legal studies majors are ranked horribly on LSAT scores, the biggest factor in law school admissions. I think you’re better off going for a more classic social science/Humanities major. (history, philosophy, political science, etc.)

^ Yeah I was looking into that and I have to agree. The classes I need to take for UCB’s legal studies program also meet the criteria for UCSD political science-internationl relations major. I feel like that would be a better choice because I could also TAG into it. Thank you for your input.
