What do I really need to do for vocab?

whats your strat? and yes i know the positive and negative, and I sometimes use that. And I know there are trigger words that just signal what words are used, could you provide tips on that?

ex) Although…iajw;oeifja;wieof : would signify an opposite word, but I was wondering do the trigger words work everytime? Or could they do like a double negative and make it positive? kind of like math? I hope you see where I"m coming from…

I still find it hard to study during the weekdays. I feel that I’m putting too much attention on vocab. I had a 670 on Math, and that’s very simple to boost up 30 points. I had 9 SC wrong on the real thing, and it’s still scary to see how many of those words I didn’t know at all. I don’t even know how much sparknotes 1000 and the 1200 words in a month list will help me on the June 7th SAT. As much as people say you don’t need to learn, you have to know those words in some way if you want to do good.

Yeah. Idk what they are talking about. I found that memorizing/learning a bunch of those SAT words helped a lot. Now I don’t freak out when i see the SC b/c I know I know most of it. And they repeat a lot of SAT words… or maybe it’s just me seeing it everywhere I go now.

I had the same problem as you.
I spent the last summer memorizing 20 vocab words each day, and I repeatedly went back to those words through reading my favorite magazines or actually using them when I was talking or reading.
Now, I have almost no problem with vocab.

^ You’ve really inspired me there, because I was planning on spending this summer focusing on the vocab sections.

I can quite swiftly get in the high 700s or even 800 in the math, but I always slip up in the CR sections and freak out when I find that I don’t know half the vocab words!! I’ve only ever taken the PSAT before, which I didn’t revise for at all. As I’m an international student, half the people in my school don’t even know what the SATs are, and I came into the exam barely knowing the format of questions in the PSAt, other than the fact that it was multiple choice!!

So I really screwed up and I’m trying to boost my score - particularly in the vocab and writing sections…

You may call me stupid or genius, but here’s what I did (and am doing)-

About a month ago I started doing 2 sections of the Barrons 3500 word list per day. Thats anywhere from 100 to 200 words a day, but many words are fairly common. It took me about 20 days (I did more sometimes) and i’ve been flipping through about 10 section a day now, and I seem to know about 90% of them. I’m pretty sure I’ll know every thing by next Saturday. It’s not too hard, you just need to plan.

^ Wow, that’s incredible! I guess different people have different ways of studying. That strategy might suit some people well, and others will find it ineffective. Out of curiosity, how many of the words did you know before hand?

Id say about 40%. I guess a major incentive is that I screwed up bigtime the last time I took it, and I really want to cut 2250 this time.
