Now coming to SATs

I havent given it yet. BUT I have an average score of 2250 on around 5 Practice tests.

Cant comment about SAT II. Though I gave a Phy practice test full 800.

I will be applying to various college and also for aid :)

Cheers!

WOW---you have worked really hard--and deserve accolades! I hope you do well on your SATs---and apply to the college/s you deem are good fits for you-don't sell yourself short--go for it!

ajayc - Obviously you have a lot going for you, and I wish you well in finding an appropriate university to continue your studies. I would suggest that you think about ways to summarize your accomplishments and your ambitions in a way that's easy to digest. (There's a reason America workers are encouraged to fit fifteen years of accomplishments on a one-page Resume -- that's all most readers have the patience to absorb!) Good luck.

You clearly have what every school is looking for...academics, leadership, extracurriculars and athletics. In theory, you should be admitted everywhere, but as I'm sure you know, every elite university is overrun with stellar applicants. To which schools are you thinking of applying? Are they schools with a history of admitting and financing international students? How have students from your high school with similar stats fared when applying to US schools? Lastly, do you have a particular passion that will set you apart and about which you can write a really attention-grabbing essay?

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you all for your responses I really appreciate it! :)

Well my top choice are Dartmouth, MIT, Stanford and Harvey Mudd {There are a few others I like too} Yes most of the colleges that I am applying provide aid to internationals. No one has ever applied to US Colleges from my High School. But there are loads of other applicants from India. Well I have a lot of things to write about! Why I went on to create the magazine, my work for Leprosy Mission etc And I could write about various experiences that I have gone through you know Like my dad is an officer in the army so we have to travel cities every 2 years. OR maybe write about how strongly I want to be the first person on mars!!! :D hahaha I want to make a basketball court on moon so that everyone can dunk ;)

The reason why I dont want to go to Indian Colleges like the Indian Institute of Tech are like for getting in you have to study continuously for 2 years ignoring your school studies and ECs completely! And around 5,00,000 students appear every year and only 2000 make it! And they are alloted majors NOT asked which ones they want! I mean WTH you spoil your life for 2 years in the end you are not even sure the major you are going to get. And even if I get aerospace there arent any scope for research or funds from the university. I want to do something really good and conduct research on my own WHICH the IITs dont allow!

Just 26 days left for my SAT :)

You're international app(worse chances than US app)

Your Indian grading system is messed up (63% is a B?!?). Colleges in the US will likely not consider your grades to be as high as your system makes it.

I can't tell you ANYTHING about MIT without your SAT scores.

I think you're going into engineering. Correct? I think with a good SAT score, you have a decent chance at all your schools except MIT. If you go into computer engineering then I think you have a decent chance at MIT as well if you can get proof of all that linux involvement.

BTW, I'm not a parent. Sorry if I was harsh.

no problem mate, but Indian system is twice as difficult as the US system :) and WES also uses the same grading system for india! And hindi is a compulsory subject till grade 10 which you can drop in grade 11 which I have already done!

The Indian system is most certainly more difficult than the American system. That being it said, it hasn't stopped MIT from rejecting plenty of strong international applicants--competition is even more fierce than for domestic applicants. Also remember that admissions for international students is not usually need-blind.

Well to the colleges I am applying, they are need blind towards internationals OR provide aid once they admit the international applicant. But what I dont understand is why whould MIT care about my hindi marks which I got like 2 years ago?! and which is an optional subject after grade 10.

Anyways I will apply and hope for the best :)

I don't think you understand the meaning of non need-blind. It means that colleges will take into account how much financial aid you will need when accepting you--meaning if you're going to receive a lot of aid (read: you're poor) colleges will be much more hesitant to accept you. One of my friends who was an Indian international with a perfect (in the american system) GPA and great scores was rejected from almost everywhere she applied because she needed aid and wasn't a supergenius. (Note that MIT in particular IS need-blind for internationals though)

In any case, that wasn't my point. You seem to think I meant you'd have a hard time getting into reach colleges because you got a bad grade in Hindi. What I'm trying to convey is that reach schools, such as schools in the top ten, often reject people with straight As and excellent SAT scores. You've got decent extracurriculars too, but you shouldn't consider any top ten school a sure acceptance.

Good luck!!

I understand that lizzardfire. And I am no genius I just have a few good achievements and I wil probably have more NASA work on my list after a few months.
And being an asian also sucks! :D But hey I will do my best and leave the rest!

You are a good student with very good EC, many colleges will be happy to have you as a member of their class. Check out www.ctcl.com, many merit scholarship opportunities at well respected colleges.

thank you for the link but none of those colleges are on my list :(

Yes, I understand that you have a list of schools. You might consider adding one or two other schools to your list as you explore your options. It's okay for your list to change especially once you begin to visit campuses.

I cant visit any campus since I am an international!

I mean my parents cant afford a trip to US just to check out colleges...

OP, is it necessary to post your stats and ask about your chances on a dozen different forums?

Well basically I wanted the parents views nothing else. This is my last 'chances' thread on CC :)
