Do they want to know more of who I am, or more of how well I write?
Should I be talking about myself, or talking about a bigger problem, etc?

My essay is open-ended (ask and answer a question).

My essay is open-ended (ask and answer a question).

They want to know more about you. Paint them a picture of who you are. Sorry very broad answer but I can’t just give you a question :)

Sounds like the Lawrenceville essay. :)

The answer to your question is basically “yes”. They certainly want to see how well you write. And by “write”, I mean all aspects of writing from basic grammar through understandability to style and imagination. They also want to learn something about you. Whatever you select to write about and what you choose to say about that subject will tell them something about you. Don’t squander the opportunity.

You want the essay to sound as much like you as possible. Ask someone to read it to see if they can indisputably tell that it’s your personality and your writing.

what musisat said… in a word, honesty. It was very difficult for me, but I can say that my son’s essays are 100% his own. (and thank God everything is DONE and mailed!)

I agree with neato, and yes HALLELUJAH that everything is done sigh

Well they’re not done for me. :/

Thanks, and yeah, it is the Lawrenceville essay. Good guess.

Is there a font size requirement?

Ahh, please? Font size? Would size 11 be okay, or size 12? What size did everyone else choose? (if you remember)

I have a topic, yay! But I’m at about half-a-page (that’s really short, since the maximum is one page long) and it’s already packed with information. Hmm…

What if I made this essay into a narrative? I’m trying to make it as visual as possible instead of just telling.

Aaggghhhh, darn myself for procrastinating! :'(

OK, fess up everyone. Who found that they could use essentially the same essays for different schools? A few schools make it relatively easy and a few make it nearly impossible I think?

are you allowed to use the same essay?

The schools probably don’t compare so they won’t know. If they do, they probably don’t care. The answer is yes.
