What do you call CC?

Other than “addictive” and “a time-suck,” what do you call CC? Specifically, do you think “forum” or “community” or “message board”? We have to link to this site from other locations, and we want to use the terminology that most people would “get” immediately.

All of these terms work and are generally understood, but we’d like your opinion as to the best and most easily understood term or terms.

So, please take a few seconds to answer the survey. If we missed a term, then please let us know in a comment. Thanks!

I usually call it a “college website.”

CC is the best kept secret in the whole world! So I don’t share it too much. But when I do mention it, I call it a college advice/college planning website.

Misinformation.

Awww PiperXP – I have learned so much here on CC. From your post count, you seem to visit alot and have been a member for a very long time… can’t be that bad right? Are you joking? You must be! LOL Bless your little heart!

I’m tempted to say community, but I don’t know most people on here well, but at the same time we all are kinda close (goal wise and attitude wise). I’m conflicted.

@NewHeaven Lol! I do the same! I don’t want other figuring out the secrets of CC, esp if they are in my grade level

LOL @ZD… I only mention it to those who I know will not visit the site! I know thats terrible but hey…

I say college forum, mostly because ‘online community’ sounds too cheesy

scariest site on the internet

My husband would call it “annoying” because I talk about it so much. I describe it to other parents as a college website.

I call it a college admissions forum.

Due to its addictive nature, I refer to it as College Crack-idential.

All my family and friends know about this site because I quote from it so often!

The smarter Twitter

a “college website” or “college forum”

A college website. Or, personally, a crystal ball.

A message board.

Mostly entertaining and not something to take too seriously. You really have no idea if the people offering ‘advice’ have any idea what they are talking about, often times it appears they don’t. Adults in real life don’t talk down to other adults or belittle those who happen to have a different point of view, not sure why it should be any different here. No one I know of thinks more highly of those who do. Many on here like to sound authoritative or will bla bla bla on whatever the topic of the week happens to be. Then there are those who seem to take the opposite view to whatever some are saying apparently in an attempt to provoke an argument. I also look at how many posts individuals have made since it seems like some are in a contest to see who can the highest number. The ‘ignore’ feature is also great since you can simply avoid reading the nonsense that some regulars tend to post.
