On the Upenn application it asks what I like to do for fun? What’s the best way to answer this question.
I mean, can I just flat out say “I like to spend time with my family, go out with my friends, run, play poker, listen to rap, go to dance clubs, hang out with girls with questionable morals, watch football games, watch movies, chat on AIM, and trade currency.”

I mean I want to be honest and all, but I get this bad feeling that they want to hear “read, spend time with my friends, watch the grass grow”

I don’t think they want a list, but on only 4 lines I don’t know how much explaining they want me to do

I’m just trying to figure out what things I should definately leave out… I mean the things I do for fun are in no way academic or anything like that… they are only for my amusement and fun or things I find enjoyable (like currency trading)

keep in mind i am just a senior and haven't even applied yet, but this is my opinion...

I think it's OK b/c it shows that you're not just a geek, which might be something they are looking for. I think the key to the application is to be yourself. If you like watch football games, so be it. If you like to read...you get the picture.

On the other hand, if there is something you enjoy that is unique that you can bring to the Penn campus...in the end, I think is what they're looking for.

The "fun" question is a kind of annoying, Bowdoin has it on their app too. Just be yourself, but not so much as to reveal anything too unfavorable, shall we say. And, skierdude, hanging out among girls with "questionable morals," tsk, tsk ;).

they're going to know you're full of it if you say "Oh i love sitting with my best chum Richard and discussing Philadelphia's geography and solutions to problems our friends are facing." be yourself -- i promise you that that will look better than anything you could contrive. i was myself, and i was told by a few people that i dominated answering those questions.

I did a search of the past threads on the short answers for the penn apps. Though the questions have changed, but I think the space limit will remain the same.
