Oh, I am sending this one into Reader's Digest! Great lawyer joke.

Thank you, NorthStarMom.

they withdrew their offer for admission (it was harvard)

previous post = when girl sent in a tape of beautiful piano playing, turned out it was her mom

Wow. I know this next sentence that I'm going to make will affend many of you, but here it goes.... I think it's said when wealthy parents will go any length, including murder, just so their children get into the top-notch colleges.

In order for people to get anywhere, one must take risks. All parents here claim that cheating leads to adverse consequences in the future, but in reality all this philosophy talk is BS. I've seen enough examples of people cheating and getting what they want that its not even funny. Hmm, I wonder how many hypocrites are here in this thread!

"
In order for people to get anywhere, one must take risks. "

One must take productive risks, not unethical or stupid ones.

People who get into top colleges take productive risks such as pursuing ECs that interest themselves, but that their peers or even parents may not understand or may scorn. They take productive risks by starting clubs that are in their areas of interest.

They take productive risks by taking unpopular stands: joining the Gay, Lesbian Transgender Bi alliance because they identify with or wish to support the cause; writing and publishing well researched articles on controversal issues; daring to ask a local professor if the student can do research with the professor; seeing a problem in their community and rallying people to address it.

The people who get ahead by taking risks don't have to lie on their applications about what they've done. They can write the truth and impress adcoms.

Bill Gates is an example of a risk taker. He's a billionaire because he took a risk by starting a business that few others believed in. He didn't get ahead in life by telling a pack of lies.

He didn't have to lie. He stole Apple's graphic interface.

.

Apple took it from Xerox

Alien and Cheetah;
From your experience...of 18 years??
Yes, you are correct in stating that some liars get ahead of those who don't lie.
But, MOST eventually get caught in their lies and pay a price.
You must be able to face your family, friends colleagues and have them trust you for your word.
Trust is one of the most important factors in determining if you are a success in life.
Lie on your college application, lie to your wife, lie to your family....You will eventually be caught and the price you pay is humiliation which no one will ever forget, and you won't outlive.

Your word is your most precious commodity through life.
Rskibum

OH Yeah...Alien and Cheetah...
WHAT Colleges are YOU applying to?
Hey ADCOM, look them up! And reject them!
