What do you mean by "I can't afford X school"?

i suppose it was just easier?

oh....that was supposed to be funny...

Good thing the OP is getting a full ride, because I can't imagine that any parent would be willing to give him/her one thin dime.

OP, think what you want, just please, don't have kids.

I realize I am coming onto this thread a bit late but after reading over the posts I just had to add something. I couldn't help but think, when listening to the attitude of the OP, that whatever field you go into you almost always have to deal with other people. If you continue with an attitude like you exhibit in your posts. NO ONE will want to deal with you and the likelihood of you succeeding in life is slim. (Unless you plan on a career that you can carry out in a room alone where you won't offend and frankly appall anyone...no wait...that's what you've done here!)

I want to go home and give both my kids hugs. Wow. I am so grateful that they do not have the snotty sense of entitlement that the OP showed.

Well! I guess we've all been told, eh?

OP will have debt all right...when she realizes she can't keep up with the Joneses at Duke without the benefit of credit cards.

My kids are entitled to all of the love and support I can give them...happily, they do not feel a sense of entitlement.

I think OP was acting out her name...

FYI, The OP got into Penn and Princeton as well. Seems though, the Princeton grant wasn't good enough...

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/484847-financial-aid.html#post1060099614%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/princeton-university/484847-financial-aid.html#post1060099614</a></p>

Looks like her parents are "failures" in her eyes.

It would be unrealistic for me to take out nearly 200k in loans to attend a private college, and it would be incredibly unfair to ask my parents to take on a lot of debt, which is why I can't afford X school.

OP, I am appalled at most of your posts throughout CC (I searched through your previous posts). Your attitude is stifling. I would hope a student of your level (being accepted to Princeton and UPenn and Duke) would have been more open minded as well as empathetic...not only that, but your own current situation should warrant a more humanly response.

Obviously you have great stats...but in the end, SAT scores and GPA's are worthless. If you continue to live your life with these sets of ideals, you won't be remembered for the person who got into princeton or duke or penn...you'll be remembered for the heartless and narrowminded person that you were.

I would much rather attend a community college practicing and hopefully reciprocating basic moral and humanly values (being a good person) rather than attending duke with a p*-a attitude and a level of arrogance that would make the most egotistical losers i have met seem like priests on the way to sainthood

This is a great topic!

Damn proud of myself for stirring so much controversy.

I guess there will be no eating clubs for OP!!

btw, Princeton is also a very affluent little town where you feel the difference between the haves and the have nots.

randombetch,

If you're a real person: please, please print this out and read it again in 10-20 years. The thought of that warms my heart.

Bump.......

Is not sure if anyone realizes that I didn't read any of the last two pages of responses

There isn't really much controversy. I think everybody agrees that your viewpoint is narrow minded, laughable, and of course, completely wrong.

Is it worth taking on so much debt if you intend to be an academic or a researcher? I want to start working on my research goals now, and it would be great to build the contacts now.

I find it disturbing that some parents have expressed such smugness about someone else's not being able to afford all the luxuries of the rich. Also, the sort of schandenfreude that leads to people posting about the fall of Bear Stearns to show what...? A certain career isn't 100% secure? To spread the joy of seeing others enter unemployment?

The OP never professed the need to fit in with the "haves" of Duke or elsewhere, and it's unfair that in this and previous posts people have merged the two ideas (i.e. writing mockingly, "can't go on spring break? borrow!"). The crucial distinction is that education is an investment, the returns hugely dependent on what you make of it--and expensive handbags and spring break trips are obviously not.

OP, seriously? It may be fair to say that parents who cannot afford private college educations have failed at earning money (note: not failed in their careers, as some even at the highest levels pay not that much), but success as parents should really be seen in how they've treated their children and the sort of children they raise. You know, character.

I vote that we end this thread. The OP is clearly an obnoxious little twerp who enjoys the attention.
