What do you think?

Hi, I don't want to take too much of anyone's time, but I was hoping someone could comment on what they believe my chances of getting in Stony Brook Honors College to be? I am very serious about science (biology/chemistry/biochemistry) and Stony Brook would be an affordable opportunity to study what I want with its top notch programs! I am also extremely interested in Undergraduate Research and I know that is readily available at Stony Brook!

GPA: Unweighted = 95.6
Weighted= 97.5 (as of last January, probably higher now)

SAT: 660 Critical Reading, 540 Math, 560 writing (I am enrolled in a class and will be taking the SAT two more times, I'm hoping for a significant boost since I received these scores taking the test with absolutely no preparation)

SAT II:
Bio E. - 800
US - 700

Extra Curricular Activities:
Captain of NOSB team
Independent Research (worked on two projects - received fellowship over the summer)
Founder of Greenhouse club
Jazz Band
Pit Band
Audio for school musical
Pep Band
National Honor Society
3 years of varsity Swimming

AP's:
World - 4
US - 4
Bio - 4

This year I am taking:
AP Statistics
AP English Literature
AP Chemistry
AP Environmental Science

Thank you in advanced for your time!

I think your SATs are likely going to hold you back right now... but if you get them up, you'd certainly be in the ballpark.

There are no guarantees for the Honors College; they only take a class of about 60, but they get well over a thousand applicants. Good luck!

Chris

Thanks Chris! I think my scores will go up!

I just had another quick question and didn't want to start a whole new thread:

When I apply to Honors college, will the admissions staff read my main common app. essay in addition to my supplemental essay? (since I wrote about a revelation to a specific word, I categorized it under the "other" category in the common app and not the "#1: life changing experience" essay, so I had to write a new one to answer the "life changing experience" question for the honors college supplement)
I am very proud of my main essay... I don't want it to be ignored.

thanks!

Yes, they'll probably see both. They want to see the "#1" essay, however, to keep as level a playing field as possible.

Chris

I got my SAT scores up:

700 CR
640 Math
640 Writing (Essay: 10)

do you think my chances of honors college have increased?
thanks.

well they certainly haven't decreased =)

Hey, any time your scores go up, that's a good thing!

Chris
