I see this all the time and I was wondering what you consider a competitive high school. I see many people in "Chance" threads that say "I go to a super competitive school that sends a lot of kids to top schools".

Also, do colleges know how good your school is if its a known "competitive" school. I realize schools send out profiles, but do you think there are a few that they're more aware of? My school is ranked in the top 40 in the nation, and top 15 for STEM, so I'm wondering if colleges would know about it?

If a good college receives a relatively large amount of high quality apps from a few schools, they will typically recognize that that school produces a large number of good students. That being said if you’re going to a school that good, there are probably a lot of smart people applying to good schools, making it so the good schools have gotten used to hearing about your school.
