what does it take to enroll to ivies for succesful musician/rapper/producer?

are successful musicians admitted to ivies/colleges just like successful ATHLETES? as long as scores are GOOD its FINE , success in their fields matters the most right?

also , isn’t it a myth that your major should be connected to your extracurricular activities? major doesnt matter for athletes/musicians right?

wrong
It doesn’t matter for athletes as much but it still matters, and it definitely matters for musicians
there are so many amazing hobby musicians at ivies, even if you have an album on spotify or something that’s not a gurantee

If you are intending to study music at any elite school, and in fact at non-elite schools too, you will need recordings of your music. You will probably have to audition. And if you claim you are a successful musician, I imagine they will want evidence to support that, if you are not a household name. And if you are a household name, it’s a moot point.

There’s a lot of competition for international spots. A ~1350 SAT is very good, but I don’t know how competitive it is for the Ivies. I don’t think musicians are recruited the same way athletes are, but you can apply and see what happens.

I’m pretty sure musical majors are very competitive at the Ivies, even for U.S. students. I have a friend who applied this year to Ivies to study classical and there from her experience no recruits. There are auditions and portfolios and the programs are incredibly selective. I don’t really understand why you believe musicians would be recruited. Athletes are recruited, but they also don’t major in their sport. It’s a pursuit outside of the classroom. I don’t think it’s comparable at the Ivies or any school.

Athletes are recruited because they need to field teams and would prefer to be competitive for their league. No school absolutely needs to have a rapper.

Unless you’re a household name, you’ll need the legit scores & grades to have even an outsidel shot at the Ivies, @Derpthulu .

@marvin100 yea thank you :slight_smile:

@CathJR @UnhealthyAdmissionAddiction i want to study computer science by the way

If you have already won a Grammy, good chance. If not, no chance.

Not all the ivies are the best choice for music or computer science.

@jym626 well to be honest, i dont care about their majors , i am pretty sure they all have nice programs, thats enough for me, ill have to master my “computer science” skills myself. Prestige is my priority.

Prestige should not be the only priority. IMO, students who pick, for example, Yale to major in engineering are making a big mistake.

@jym626 youre right in certain cases but IMO when its about computer science, i think college doesnt matter as long as it has ABOVE AVERAGE classes. i agree on major like engineering, school really matters tho!

If you want a strong compsci program + prestige, look at MIT, UC Berkley, CalTech. These are all highly regarded universities that have stronger computer science programs than the Ivies. In another thread I listed the top 10 compsci schools and only 3 of those were ivies (and those 3 were at the bottom of the list).

@yonceonhismouth yea, im meant “ivy caliber schools” not just ivies haha  btw my primary goal is stanford, i will send RESTRICTIVE EARLY APPLICATION there for sure.

Okay, so even if music studies or something is not your major, I don’t see musicians ever being recruited anyway. Sports and athletes do something for schools. They are events and sometimes they even raise money. Musicians can have concerts, but kids will go to those outside of school mostly. And it’s not like there’s some competition for them to recruit musicians for. I still don’t think it’s the same thing.

@CathJR dont colleges look for motivated students, who will achieve a lot in their lives=> successful stanford alumni raises reputation of univeristy.

Motivated yes, but being a musician is still just an EC. Tons of kids have great ECs applying to Ivies. They’ve stated they get so many qualified applicants that they can create a class, trash it, and then create a totally equal new class. Also, it’s not just successful alumni for Stanford, but for any college. I know you want this to be in your favor, and it may be but if so only minorly. You have yet to respond to anyone telling you you must be household name with that you are, and so I’ll believe you’re not. Musician is an EC and they’re not going to recruit for it.

@CathJR yea im not household name, but theres plenty of time to become one. thats what im currently doing = D becoming famous is my priority rn
