Texas med school requirements are clear about the credits required for each subject in semester and quarter hours but when you look at AAMC, it is not clear.

What does an year equate in classwork, labs in semester or quarter hours?

What does an year equate in classwork, labs in semester or quarter hours?

Probably 8-10 semester credit hour units or 12-15 quarter credit hour units, if we assume that the types of courses in question (e.g. biology, chemistry, physics, math) are typically 4-5 credit hour units per semester or quarter.

the issue is not all schools use the same credit system. For example, at Brown (and Yale too I believe) all classes regardless of presence of lab are 1 credit each. I believe at most schools it would be 8 credits for a year of class with lab.

I think most schools follow a common count although Brown and Yale follow the 1 credit per class system (MIT awards humongous number of points). I guess 8 points makes sense.

At Y, all regular classes (except FL) are 1 credit, but labs are .5 credit. Pomona is like B in giving 1 unit per class whether it has a lab or not. I think this type of credit system is in the minority though.

oh yeah, Brown/Yale/Pomona’s systems are definitely in the minority.

Texas wants 2 years of Biology and there are some people who respond promptly who said biochemistry can also count for Biology.
