I was supposed to have received an admission decision from New College of Florida by today, but I didn't, so I called the office of admission and asked what the status of my application was. I was told that my application was being reviewed by the dean, and that he had to approve the recommendation that the admission committee had made. She said that I would probably get my decision next week.

Is this a good thing? I wouldn't think that they ask the dean to make the final call for the students that they want to reject. My profile is unusual--great essay, 36 ACT, solid extracurriculars, and a 2.7 GPA. It seems as though they might need the dean's approval if they wanted to admit me.

Does anyone know how this usually works?

And yes, I know I'm overthinking it. Humor me.
