I have a question that has not been answered yet:
I have heard that having too many EC’s can actually hurt your chances of admission; however, by following my passions in high school, I have a totall of about 12 EC’s. BUT, they all connect back to international studies and healthcare/science/math(and a few leadership clubs-- Student Government and Mentoring Freshmen). I plan to major in Neurology and international studies. So, with that in mind, will my long list of EC’s negatively affect my chances of admission, eventhough they all connect to my passion for the sciences and international studies?

Also, I have been actively involved in all clubs through leadership positions and volunteer work.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I think that if you are actively involved in all of them, you should be fine. However, I do not think that it will be possible for you to major in both Neuroscience and International Relations if you attend Harvard. You need to Google “Harvard joint concentration” before you apply, because that’s what we have instead of double majors.

PS In the future, as a housekeeping thing, try not to revive long-dead threads.

This is the type of questions without a single “correct” answer, and the best possible answer can only be from yourself - just look into all of them and honestly list the actual hours per week and the total weeks of your involvement during the year(s) for each of them, and then it will become pretty clear (to you and your readers) which ones are truly meaningful and important to you… I bet you may cut down the list easily.

I really wish I could easily cut down the list, but the only one I’m not too involved with is Spanish club(b/c we only have meetings; but, I have volunteered at a huge city-fair w/ this club)

How can I possibly reflect the importance of these EC’s in my application? (besides putting them in the order of importance on my common app)

My son just received an email for a 2nd interview. How does this increase or decrease his chances? The email sounded as if he already has been accepted. It will take place March 20th which is pretty late in the process. Anyone have any comments? Thanks
