Say I major in biology and minor in finance and four years later decide not to go to medical school, would I still be able to get a job in finance with just a minor. What exactly is the point of minoring?

If you have an interest you don't want to major in then you can minor in it. Some people use the minor to supplement something, say an a psychology major minors in business if they want to open up their own business or something. Some majors/minors go hand in hand, ie accounting major/finance minor; sociology major/psych minor. That all being said, I think it is just a scheme for college to get more tuition dollars. I've known people who have like 3 minors, but they spent another year and a half at school. That's why I didn't minor in anything.

University of California loses money when kids double major, so im assuming its the same for minoring. UC started trying to discourage kids from double majoring cause of budget cuts.
