what forms do I need to fill out if parents do not pay taxes? If they own their own business?

Which kind of taxes are you talking about? If the parents don’t pay personal income tax, then that would be reflected in the FAFSA/CSS profile; I don’t believe you need to fill out additional forms, and of course you wouldn’t be faxing in a tax return.

The financial state (and the taxes) of a business they own would also be reflected in the above forms. I’m not sure whether Stanford would require you to fax in a return for this.

You should call or email the financial aid office to be sure.

So for the personal business, if they don’t even have any sort of returns or anything, what would they send in. Stanford was a bit vague when they said “a letter explaining”
What should I put in this letter???
THANKS.

ANYbody?
Helloooooo.

As far as I’m aware, for what you’re asking, what Stanford wants isn’t online and hasn’t been discussed much if at all on CC, so your best bet really would be to call the financial aid office and ask. They’re very helpful, and you shouldn’t be on hold for long. Given how important this is (esp. if you accidentally misrepresent your family’s assets and they find out), you definitely want to hear this straight from the horse’s mouth.

As well, check out the financial aid forum on CC.

Are your parents US citizens with a business in the US?

Do your parents own a business in the US? If so, is there some reason why they don’t file a tax return?
