Since you're seeking to "make up" an excuse, I have 2 words for you.

You're screwed (or 3 words if you expand into "you are").

Quite honestly, schools aren't gonna be so sympathetic unless you have:

-chronic illness
-death in the family
-family dysfunction
-stuff like that

edit: Actually, if it was JUST English, then I wouldn't consider it a downwards trend.

I have 4 excuses that you can pick from

-chronic illness
-death in the family
-family dysfunction
-stuff like that

thnx CollegeHereI_Come!

lol

actually no matter what the underlying reason, even if it is in the ones listed above, it does no good when used as an EXCUSE. For better or worse, colleges (and your future bosses) don't want to hear excuses. They want to hear you accept responsibility and explain what you've learned from the experience and how you're going to prevent the problem from happening in the future. A death or serious illness might not be held up to as high a standard, but in general that's the way it works. To say the teacher was lousy or had it in for you is a certain way to set yourself back.

It works this way in life, too. If you want insight into someone's personality and core values, don't look at them when they're happy and everything is going wonderful. How do they act when the chips are down? That shows you their character.

If you have death in the family, thats not chips are down.... Thats definitely excusable. Some problems maybe.. but a family death is always excused
