What extracurriculars should I do if I want to get into U of M.

I am currently a freshman and have done JV wrestling and soccer for my high school. I have a 3.96 unweighted GPA and got a 1310 on the psat 8/9. What kind of things should I add to my college resume before the end of high school?

Do things that interest you. If your school has a computer science or robotics track and this interest you then go for it. Many universities have engineering programs in the summer time. Michigan has one also. If instate,Michigan State has a great robotic one. Also if Ace Mentoring is in your area it’s a great program to expose you to real life engineering. You do this during the school year. Key thing also is do things for 3-4 years. So even sports for that time shows commitment. Also peer tutoring, math tutoring etc at your school shows leadership and shows a speciality in an area. Don’t do anything just because you think it’s what the college want to see. Do things that interest you and your passionate about.

I agree with Knowsstuff. Do what you enjoy doing and are passionate about. Universities can sense passion, and they admit students who are passionate about what they do.

Try some varsity level sport (as you say, wrestling and soccer), I would recommend. For other activities, just do what you want basically, and COMMIT to them. AOs value commitment a lot.

And try to show leadership in one of the activities you do.

I heard they like football at U of M.

Muad, instead of trying to please Michigan, pursue ECs that actually speak to you. Among the students I know who have been admitted to Michigan recently, was a cook, a biker and a guitarist. Just do what you love.

In their holistic admissions process they want to know who you are—not who you’re pretending to be in trying to please them. Be yourself. Do what you enjoy, what you find interesting, what you find challenging and rewarding. And be the best at it that you can be.
