The APs in our school are most challenging. While honors classes weight at .33 higher than regular classes, AP classes weight only .1 higher than honors classes. In order to qualify for an AP class, students must be running a high average in the previous honor class as well as have a teacher recommendation. There is no grade inflation and few (if any) opportunities for extra credit. It is not uncommon for students who carry a heavy AP load to move down in class rank by the end of junior year. It is my understanding that most of the students take the AP exams and score 4s or 5s. No one would take an AP to inflate their grade, on the contrary, students think twice before enrolling.
