I need rules to study so i can get 700+ on my writing October SAT. I did pretty well on the writing sections that I've done for practice but i mess up because i don't know many grammar rules. Help!

bump… best books etc

I recently just got an 800 on the Writing section. A HUGE topic that you should review is pronoun/antecedent agreements. If something is plural, then everything has to be plural to match it! Also, the Collegeboard loves to trick students with prepositions; a good way to avoid this is to literally cross off prepositional phrases, which will help you match subjects with verbs, pronouns with antecedents, and other pairs more easily. Hope that helped!

@froma, I looked that up and that was very helpful of you. thanks

anyone else wants to fill me in on other common SAT grammar errors?

Search up “SAT grammar rules” and that should help you a lot. I just read and bookmarked it. I’m sort of paranoid writing this post because I just learned so many new grammar rules and I feel like I’ve already broken a couple in this short response

I meant to say click on the first link. It should be “complete SAT grammar rules.” I actually used bing so you might not get the same first link as I did.

If you feel like you know the simple stuff pretty well, SAT 2400 is a stellar review book that I used. It is essentially geared towards the tougher questions on the SAT. The key is just to keep practicing and figure out what you’re doing wrong from the explanations provided. I mean, I still don’t know the names of all the grammar rules, but I could pinpoint when something was out of place simply because I did so many problems that the mistake (and I think SAT 2400 covers most of the common ones the SAT uses to trick people) just jumped out at me. I mean, really, when you read a sentence, do you think “What’s the name of the rule that applies here?” or “What doesn’t sound right and how do I fix it?” It was 70% gut feeling for me. Though I only got a 750 on that part, I felt satisfied with it.

@ptontiger, I usually just use my gut also but sometimes I make silly mistakes and I want to know what errors I’m missing.
