What happened? Is no one interested in Midd anymore?

Where is Arcadia, OldBatesieDoc, Modadunn, etc.? No one gets on the Midd board anymore. I haven't commented in almost a month. I've started speaking with strangers on the street about what a good school it is. They don't really seem that interested. If this keeps up I'll have to start attending a support group. HELP!

So excited for my D, Class of 2017! Midd is a perfect fit for her.

Midd overenrolled this year, yield higher than expected!

Summer doldrums. Things will pick up in a few weeks I’d imagine.

Maybe people have figured out how to use the search tool? However, there is a facebook group where lots of questions about where to stay, where to eat, what to bring, what’s going on, etc.

Thanks guys! (takes deep breath). I’ll try to relax now.

Some previous posters have new issues! Looking on the common app for kid #2, Midd has a form with four different choices regarding preference for September or February admissions AND A DIFFERENT DUE DATE (Feb. 29) for those who prefer to be Febs. I think this is new. Nothing on the website yet about it. I’m trying to think which applicants will be helped by this and whether it helps the school somehow (increasing applications?) Any thoughts/info?

Well . . . I don’t have any insights on this one Hitch, but I think it’s another example of Middlebury being innovative. They’ve always been a leader in Feb admissions, now they’re changing the game once again.

Rumor has it if they do this, the February applicants don’t get included in the admissions rates published in ‘the guides’, but I think it might actually just be a kinder, gentler reason. Some of the students are disappointed to start in Feb. even when they have ticked the box, this way everyone is clear in what they are applying for. It will also probably increase applicants since without a supplemental essay and later date, it is an ‘easy’ application to submit. Students who are getting nervous about their chances plus southern hemisphere students may take an opportunity to apply.

@GvaMom: There is no longer a reason to want to exclude the Feb Class from any admissions data (if the supposed reason is a less accomplished class and “lower scores”). As Feb matriculants are now more and more requesting and preferring Feb admission to September admission so they can do something for 7 months post-high school (rather than taking a full gap year and waiting 14 months to begin college), their “objective” admissions criteria (ACTs, SATs, SATIIs) are equal to and in fact may be a bit higher than the September matriculants. The new date is supposedly to address the growing number who are seeking Feb admissions (and maybe it is also tied to a move away from ED2 according to a number of NESCAC sources). But maybe others know more.

No not my point at all. I totally buy into the fact that actually the Feb. matriculants are statistically stronger. What I was referring to was how the college counts their acceptance rates. My understanding if it is off cycle, it doesn’t roll into the common data set, thus you get your yield, but your accepted applicants on paper are that many less.

Thanks for clarifying, but if I understand you, I don’t believe the CDS works that way, either. That is, only matrics in September are counted, and so all Feb data (# accepted and # enrolled) are excluded. Thus, yields are unaffected. Also, I believe the yield on Febs is higher than on September admits. I may still be misunderstanding the point, and if so, I apologize.

I was wondering what happened to all the old threads that used to be listed here. Maybe their culling has led to the lack of discussion.

^^A thread is only good for thirty days unless someone bumps it.

^^ bump ^^**

GVA mom’s explanation made sense. I was just a little concerned for Midd if the choices confused applicants. Now I feel like I dreamed the 4 choices listed on the common app because they seem to be gone. Maybe Midd decided to wait until next year to use the later application date and introduce it with more fanfare?? We’ll see. We may need thread with a new name; favorite things about Midd, for example. (“is no one interested sounds negative!”) My favorite things-----how beautiful the library is and how helpful the alum network it.

I’m still hell yes interested. I just don’t have any questions, although maybe now yes I do. I’ll post in a different thread.

I was off line all summer, thanks for asking.
