What happens if I back out of early decision BEFORE I am accepted/denied?

In summary, it's been 6 days since the deadline of my ED school has passed and I'm really having cold feet with this commitment. I didn't think this one through and I understand this completely, so I don't need to be berated (I've done enough of that to myself!) about a normal, human mistake. What I do need to know is the consequences of rescinding early decision BEFORE a decision is made by the college. Any comments, thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks a ton! :)

You can call the admission office and withdraw your application. You’ll still be able to apply regular decision, if you so choose, though the ED withdrawal could possibly hurt your chances.

Consequences can not be assured or guaranteed, so just relax. This happens to some students every year and Admissions directors are used to it. Email the school and tell them you wish to be considered for RD only .

Yes. If you choose to use email, make sure you ask them to let you know they recieved it. Just to be sure.

Thanks to everyone that replied! The help is much appreciated. :)

You can contact them and you will be fine, although it is possible that this will impact your RD choices a bit.

If you are worried that it will affect your RD, tell them you aren’t sure about your financial ability to afford it or something.
