What happens if I don't take Pre-Calculus? Read description

So My teacher accepted me for AP Calculus, but I’m confused the lady who makes the schedule told me that she couldn’t sign me up for Calculus since I have not taken Pre-Calculus. But apparently The principle gave him a list of 5 students to accept into AP calculus and he picked 3 out of the 5 which was me and two other students. I’m just worried that the class won’t count or I’ll be taken out of the class in the middle of the school year because somebody might find out that I didn’t take Pre-Cal.

I think you should be equally worried about the fact Calculus can be difficult without having taken pre calculus beforehand!

^ It really depends on his background. AP Calc AB moves at a much slower pace than college calculus, there is a lot of review at the beginning. If he’s had sufficient trig, it shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.

These may be two issues:

  1. School registration rules and such. You may need to talk to the teacher, principal, etc. at your school to get this fixed.
  2. Are you really ready for calculus? Try these on-line quizzes to see what precalculus topics you may need to review before taking calculus:

That’s true @Mandalorian , and it also varies school-to-school.

I was thinking about studying during the summer to see if Calculus would be okay for me. The teacher I am suppose to have put up a Calculus website on his school page. I tried some of them, some of them were easy, some of them were hard. I’m going to work on those. At the beginning of the school year, they allow us to make changes to our schedule. So I’ll change it then if I need to.

Talk to your teacher and ask for guidance on what topics you should review over the summer so you will be prepared for calc.

@Icecold46

Just try to go through everything on Khan academy if you can. Ask your school’s Pre-Calculus teacher for a curriculum that you can go over the summer.

I got the Syllabus from his website, it shows the topics he will go over.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with taking Pre-Calc senior year of HS and Calc I first semester of college. It’s not going to hold one back any, even as a STEM major.

Yes, this works fine. This is exactly what I did, and I got my Bachelor’s as a math major at MIT (which definitely counts as STEM).
