If I am Asian, how much does getting nominated for Chemistry Olympiad National exam help for getting into Stanford and other elite schools? What about Top 150 honors?

Passion and uniqueness. The challenge for an Asian is that many achieve high academic success in the STEM areas.

That makes it hard to demonstrate passion and uniqueness. My D has an Asian friend that was accepted to Stanford. She’s very talented in the performing arts - singing and acting and dancing and has all the academic stats. I think she stood out.

Be the best you that you can be and have an excellent plan B school.

Hi there,
Having had the opportunity to work at Stanford, I can safely say that being innovative is definitely an advantage. Being in the middle of Silicon Valley has resulted in there being a large focus on entrepreneurship here. Hence, good grades alone are usually insufficient, especially with the large Asian population here.

Dabble in something less conventional; use your understanding of Chemistry/science in general and put it to good use. Invent something :)

Hope this helps!

Being a nationally competitive athlete helps a lot.
