What helps you to focus in class?

Do you guys have some tips for staying focused in class? I try to pay attention to the teacher but every so often i drift off. And what if the things that the teacher is talking about has no interest to you, then how do you make yourself focus?

how? umm idk..i just remind myself that i need to know this material for tests/quizzes and also i might get in trouble if im called on and i have no idea what the teacher's saying. i do zone out sometimes though, but it's usually only for like a minute. in some classes, like math, i just copy down the corrections to the homework and dont pay much attention when he goes over it but rather talk to people, since it doesnt help me anyway.

The best way to stay focus in class is to write all of your notes on scrap paper with the worst handwriting in the world. Keep it legible of course so you could recopy it later. By only having a sheet of paper to work with I force myself to listen to the lecture and write down only the vital information. This technique takes a lot of practice though.

You just have to keep your eyes on the teacher, no matter how boring it is. It's not that hard to pay attention....there really is no "technique". I have to force myself to listen to boring lectures all the time. You get used to it after awhile :D .

I do zone a lot in class, but only b/c my classes are pretty predictable. As long as I have a vague idea of what they're talking about I can answer a question. But whenever they talk about something that'll be on a test, I I try and write down word for word what they're saying (including the ums, be quiets, etc.) Kinda odd, but it keeps me concentrating.

take coffee, fidget alot to keep yourself from falling asleep, eat while listening

i sit in the front of the class. or as close to the front as possible. initially i did this because im short and i needed to sit in the front so that nobody tall could sit in front of me. but it does help to focus because you dont want to be clearly zoning out in the front row right where the teacher can see you. i have found that anytime i have to sit in the back..i get really distracted. so if you can..try that.

There are a lot of techniques you can employ. Eating is one of them, but that is generally not allowed. Get more sleep if you drift off because you are tired. Doodling works well too - but small doodles. You do not need to Da Vinci-fy your notebook. Try to look at it from a different perspective. If you enjoy writing words and love keeping neat notes, then just summarize whatever the teacher says and copy it down. Relish the neatness. :)

As for listening techniques, do you understand what the teacher is talking about? Oftentimes, a loss of interest marks a lack of comprehension or a lack of dedication. If this is not your case, then remove all distractions from your immediate area (extra papers, binders, pens...) and sit near the front. Keeping your eyes focused on your teacher is effective to a point, but do not kid yourself. It is still very easy to start daydreaming.

It differs from person to person. Pay attention to what you are doing when you actually do focus. If you notice a pattern, keep it up. Otherwise, force yourself. Education and good grades are not painless; just don't overwork it.

Definitely keep eye contact with the teacher.

You definitely cannot eat in class at my school. can you say detention?

^^at my school there's a rule against eating in class but most of our teachers don't mind. It really depends on how nice they are.

my math teacher won't start class if someone has any sort of food or drink other than water. it's insane. he once stared at a girl for about 5 minutes before she got the hint. it was pretty funny, because she was munching on pretzels and almost the entire class was staring at her.

i usually take really intense notes, sometimes i do space out. like when my econ teacher had the WORST pit stains ever. i didn't even notice 'til the girl next to me told me, and then i couldn't stop giggling for the rest of the hour.

for me, i really pay attention to the teachers that are REALLY stric and get super mad at u for falling asleep in their class. but to those who dont really care whether u pay attention or not, i just sometimes whisper to my friends and just copy whatever is on the board w/o listening to their lectures.

nothing. i pencil draw in class.

Taking notes on paper definetly works (not the copy-off-the-board-notes... the listen-then-write-notes).

But, it takes a LOT of practice. You can easily go off on a tangent and draw little pictures all over the paper.

Like, little flowers, hearts, and stars on the corners or the margin of the paper! Girls, you know what I'm talking about right?

Yah, sometimes I start daydreaming of sex or harry potter worlds or whatever.

But when I am focused, its because I tell my self "I really want to learn this"
