So I was deferred for Early Decision.
Is there anything I can do to increase my chances? I've read an article on here about self-marketing when you're deferred or waitlisted. Do you guys recommend that? Would the admission ppl be annoyed by any chance?

Did Rice give you any suggestions on the deferral email/letter? Some colleges say “to update your files, send stuff to …” - if they ask for it, you can certainly provide it! Suggestions are additional essays, additional letters of recommendation, etc. But only if Rice has said they’re willing to receive it. Good luck!

Rice specifically says not to send additional letters of recommendation. just fyi.

Unfortunately, I was also deferred. I am lucky enough to live within a few miles of Rice, so I drove up there to talk to an admissions person about exactly this. They said to simply email any updates to your resume (extracurriculars mostly) to admi@rice.edu, and retake SATs if I want. That and mid-year reports… Good luck!

I’m currently a freshman at Rice; I was deferred and then granted admission last year. I sent a letter to the admission’s office a couple of weeks after my deferral letter saying I was still interested and including a few details about volunteer projects in school, etc. They do say they don’t want any more rec letters, but I don’t think a short letter written by you will hurt-- it can only help your chances.

Best of luck, and I hope you get in!
