What I learned through the college admissions process...

Hey guys, most deadlines for colleges have passed so I figure I share with you what I learned:

-Where someone is admitted or not admitted isn’t everything. Once they get past the enrolling part, success is all in respect to hard work.
-An ACT/SAT score isn’t everything. As much as it has been said, I’ve seen too many “chances” threads filled with predictions of rejections based solely on their standardized tests scores. Colleges look for well rounded students, and if the college you are applying to doesn’t, you shouldn’t want to go there anyway.
-Asking for your essays to be read on here will probably leave you overly confident or disheartened. Take any piece of a advice with a grain of salt. Write about what you feel fits and the rest should fall together on its own.
-Just restating my first point because it was the hardest one to fully grasp. Rejection does not translate into failure. So whatever the result was or will be, stay positive!

I would continue but it is 3 A.M. and I’m writing this in a semi-delirous state (should explain any grammar mistakes). Good luck to all that are graduating this year!

What did you guys learn through the admissions process?

That there is truly a college for everyone. Check out my thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/admissions-hindsight-lessons-learned/1725302-there-is-truly-a-college-for-everyone.html#latest

Thanks for the advice.

As a current college student, I wholeheartedly agree with the above.

Today I just had lunch with some of my high school friends. Out of all of us, the one that was probably the most successful and involved in school was the one that attended the state flagship - student senator, on the honors council, doing research, ect. And there were some pretty high acchieving kids in the room (think colombia, ucla, ect). So the journey doesnt end after high school. What you do after is just as if not more important. Its also important not to just rule out just because how it is perceived by hs or cc classmates.

I cannot wait to get past this whole college acceptance/rejection phase and start actually doing what I want to do
