What if I am passionate about a run-of-the-mill major...

...like economics. I really really really want to major in it, I am almost perfectly sure (though, yes, the number of students who were "perfectly sure" about a single topic change their minds in college...but I like to think that cant happen to me lol!)
Should I not bother putting it down because it's so common, im up against a brick wall?

merci!

If you're passionate about it, definitely put it down. Make sure you talk about your passion for it in your essays (or "extra info" section).

your option would be to fake something else as your strongest passion. I think you know your answer. Go with econ since your essay readers are looking for the genuine "you".

Good luck to you

Colleges are looking for passion, period. I remember an adcom saying that one of the most memorable interviews she gave was when she asked a girl about her intended major. The girl's eyes lit up, and she launched into an eager (and for the poor adcom, incomprehensible) speech about biology and genetic engineering. She was admitted. :)

yay!! thanks everyone
